I was awaiting one of them to fail or both to succeed before I got my High Def on.  Now I guess I can justify a PS3.

But wait, I want guns.

So the PS3 will wait.

I've got a player that plays both, so I didnt really care which way it went.  Bluray was always my favorite though.

They are about $400 for now.  Just wait a while and they will be down just like Standard DVD's Players did.  Patience is key.

Most of the movies are going between $25-35 each, but every now and then J&R and Amazon will have a bluray sale where bluray movies will go from $12-25.

check out the used video stores and you can get blu-ray for $8-$14

Did I miss something, or is there a .22 pistol called blu-ray?

We have a friend whose husband is always going on and on about how HD-DVD rules and Blu-Ray sucks.  He has both (and two flat panel big screen TVs) in his doublewide, and he's always telling me where the best prices ($299 or so at Best Buy, etc) are on HD-DVDs and that I NEED one.  I bet he's crying right now, but I'm proud I didn't buy an HD-DVD player.

I went hd-dvd first back in november and have 22 movies for it, but I did just buy a 40gb PS3 over the weekend for bluray and gaming after the recent developments. I wish sony would have failed I'm not a big fan of them and I still believe hd-dvd was the better format but if I want hd movies it looks like its going to be bluray now.

I chose HD-DVD too, I only have 13 disks though.

I had three more that were back ordered so I canceled them yesterday when I heard Toshiba was calling it quit.

ETA:  Dking, what software are you using on the computer to play the HD-DVDs

not necessarily, you can usually find them for cheaper as long as you don't want the newest ones w/the super processors or whatever.

i went for the hddvd 360 add on...already own nearly 30 discs as well, just glad i didn't pay much for it :) and hey, at least now i hope hd discs will be stupid cheap so i can rack up some more before they're completely dead and gone :P

Buy a PS3, I was gonna get an Xbox, but the PS3, at 399, has built in blu ray, throw in killer games like Call of duty4, and no yearly online charges like x box and its a no brainer.

ETA: I read that projectors are dropping in price to a reasonable range, there are now 4 1080p projectors under 4 grand, and one is even down to 2500 I think.Thats my next purchase...After some more guns....Although my wife did ask me if playing call of duty 4 with lifesize people would put me into Flashbacks....I told her just to leave when I turn it on and she would be safe!

^^^yep, that's the smart choice now. i have had my 360 for a couple yrs though and at the time only paid $200 for it new...with the hd dvd add on it was still under $300 so i'm not sweating it :)

I only paid $160 for my toshiba hd-a3 hd-dvd player so my butt doesn't hurt too much now. I was also using it to replace my ailing standard def dvd player and it does a pretty good job at upconversion.
