I am looking at a new RRA 9mm and these might be dumb questions

is it worth having?
full of fun? yes?   no?
how accurate at 50yds?
why even try at 100yds?
are they reliable?
how easy to find mags?
school me! what can you tell me about em

thanks
tom

I had to have one, and yes there fun and reliable.
I don't think it's worth the extra exspence over a standard AR.
I should have spent the money on a SBR.
But they are fairly accurate at 100 yds.
You can get mags at 44mag but there not cheap and there not always in stock.

Yes they are fun, and hell, it's another gun to have. People argue and bitch, saying they would never have a pistol caliber in a rifle, but heck, why not? It's a fun gun to shoot!

I had an Olympic for a while and regret letting it go. It was nice in that it used Sten mags, which were plentiful and cheap.

is it worth having? YES! but get a colt.
full of fun? yes?
how accurate at 50yds? 2x as accurate as a handgun 'bout the same as any other rifle
why even try at 100yds? Because it's as accurate as .223 at that range.
are they reliable? Colt sure is with factory mags
how easy to find mags? Easy to find but expensive $30-$60

thanks

If you want to try one out call me and you bring the factory ammo.

Very fun and relaible w/C products mags. I built mine on a Garrison kit. Don't know why but the over the phone price was cheaper than the web price. by about 100 or so if I recall

I might know of a buyer for that Colt myself, drop me a PM with a price if you're interested.

RE: the original question - RRA 9mm's are seriously fun to shoot and surprisingly accurate. It seems they sometimes need a few minor adjustments to run 100%, but most of the fixes are minor and easy to do. The advantages vs the Colt are the price and the flat top. I really don't know why Colt doesn't make one in a flat top.

C Products stainless steel mags can be had for $30 bucks and are pretty easy to find. Colt mags are about $50 and much more rare. Some folks have had good sucess with the cheap plastic promags (?), but I've never seen one in person. Converted Uzi mags run well but won't lock the bolt back on an empty chamber.

A carbine length barrel adds a least 100 fps to the velocity of the round, so I wouldn't discount it's usefulness at 100 yards.

Plus you can put a can on it. 9mm in a 16" barrel sounds the same a 22lr. It's quiet. With a can it near movie silent.

not to get to far off topic, but speaking of putting a suppressor on a 9mm AR, is there a way to make a permanatly attached shroud type of thing to make the barrel reach up to 16"?

sort of like this:

Evo-9 gives the greatest reduction in sound and it can be moved to pistols just as easy because it has the neilsen device in it. So then you'll need threaded barrels for your...

A quick glance at ammo prices @ aimsurplus (no claim thet they're cheapest nor the best place to compare prices) shows .223 to be about 2 times the cost of 9mm.

If one intends to shoot a god-awful-lot, then a 9mm AR looks smart to me.

Also remember the 9mm is blowback operated. So there's no gas tube to get clogged and your hands guard options are more varied. 9mm dissapator would have no issues at all.

is it worth having?   YES--the price difference in ammo alone will pay for the rifle if you shoot a lot!
full of fun?   YES~
how accurate at 50yds?   I was hitting walnuts as 50 yds on my family property.
why even try at 100yds?  Reasonable---haven't done much.
are they reliable?   Just as reliable as my other RRA AR
how easy to find mags?  I use the plastic Promags--about 1/2 the price of the SS mags, and work just fine.  $13.99 on 44mag.com
school me! what can you tell me about em

Buy one--you'll love it.  I got an AWESOME deal on a brand new one from Pete @ Legal Transfers.  ($850 shipped I think).  I'm planning to SBR and suppress it soon.

I have one and the barrel is on its way to be choped to 6".

I am going to use a EVO9 can on mine.

Very Nice Guns. Fun to shoot, and cheap compared to .223. You can also shoot them in most indoor pistol ranges as they are 9mm. :-)

I have one 5" SBR and one 16" middy. I'm not overly impressed with the suppression on my SBR. I'll have to see if AAC has a 1/2x36 insert to try this on the longer one.

I've got one.  Fun factor is great, reliability is okay depending on ammo type, accuracy good.  Mine is 16" with free float tube.  I shot a group around 1.9 inches at 100 yards with my Aimpoint Comp ML2 so I would say it does pretty well.  115 FMJ reloads.

Arent the RRA identical to the Colts?

Watcher - Colt uses a barrel thats more of a pencil diameter and is chrome lined. The RRA is not chrome lined and is profiled like an M4 w/o the grenade launcher notch. Colt also pins the mag blocks into the lower reciever in a more or less permanent fashion. The RRA block can be removed and uses a set screw. The Colts are A2 style only with carbine length handguards, RRA offers carry handle, flat top, and both carbine and mid-length styles. Functionally they are pretty much identical and use the same magazines.

Amish Bill - ACC does make a 1/2 x36 piston, but for some reason they don't list it on their website.

What can are you running on the 5" gun??? The evo9???

If so just how loud is it? My barrel is ready to be cut. I told the smith 6" but could hold out for a longer length if suppression sucks.
