Here is the link to Athens Banner Herald: ] http://onlineathens.com/stories/091107/news_20070911048.shtml ] The guy that shot the intruder was my In-laws neighbor. We were at the lake this past weekend, so they missed it all. I did not know him, personally. I'm sad that someone lost their life for what was more than likely theft to support a drug habit (speculation), but at the same time, this should be a warning to criminals that if you break into someone's house there is a risk that you will be killed. We live in Colbert and I have seen the neighborhood change over the past 3-4 years. So much so, that I put an alarm system on the house and purchased several of those quick access safes for handguns and placed them in key areas of the house. I don't "think" that anyone would try to intrude into my house, but you never know. A guys wheels were stolen off his truck one night (two houses down from mine) and the guy at the end of the street had his lawn mower stolen. My NEXT door neighbors threw a big party with drugy friends. He wound up slicing his wrists and his girlfriend/wife ended up handcuffed on the front lawn. What joy. Just keep that nonsense on your side of the fence and I'll let live. |

Why are you sad. The fucker broke into someones house and jeopardized his family's safety. I don't care if it was to support a drug habit. We have two of those methholes living in my vicinity. One just got 3 years state prison, the other is out right now. I have to keep my eyes way open because they break into their neighbors houses. Mine is the only one not hit yet. I do not feel sorry for a druggy. An amazing side effect of staying home and minding your own business is that you don't get killed by the homeowner you just broke into. |

Doesn't seem that long ago when you could feel pretty safe living out in the country. With Meth, that seems to have changed the whole equation. The further out in the sticks you are, the more at risk you may be. Takes the po po a long time to respond because they are spread so thin. I wish they'd just legalize drugs and use the anti-drug resources to catch and deport the illegal aliens. Tax the drugs and use some of that money to set up rehab facilities. |

Meth has changed country living but legalizing drugs like that is freakin ridiculous. I don't mind what people do as long as it doesn't effect me. I had a uncle who used meth and used to make it and I don't see anyway how people could go about using it and not affect the people in their community. Legalize weed and extasy; if people want to use drugs legalize stuff that will keep them in the house. All about taxing drugs to set up rehabs. I've seen too many people waste their lives hardcore drugs to just say legalize them all. Living in Atlanta (and down the street from a Home Depot) I have noticed the influx of hispanics but the only difference that I've noticed is that they are standing out there at all hours of the day willing to work jobs that few else are. |
I fixed your post for you. I'll concede that it would make sense to look at certain drugs for legalization over others, but I disagree with you about our hermanos from south of the Rio Grande. We need to legally make life more difficult for the illegal aliens so that they move onto greener fields or better yet, go home. Here's a snapshot of my hermanos who were arrested in my "hood" in just the last 48 hours. The ones arrested for no drivers license and insurance are too long to list, so I didn't bother. Charged w/ "TRAFFICKING IN METHAMPHETAMINE" - felony www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/IMAGEONE_STAGE2.ASP?TARGET=2007027074 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/IMAGEONE_STAGE2.ASP?TARGET=2007027077 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027076 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027075 What about these for DUI and/or reckless driving - I don't want to be on the road w/ them www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027021 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027035 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007026980 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007026942 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007026924 Or these charged w/ Aggravated assault - felony www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027003 www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/asp/imageone_stage2.asp?target=%202007027001 Of course they are all innocent until proven guilty. |
