I strongly urge all GA members to ensure the timely removal of our As we continue to think about immigration reform and securing our borders, I would like to update you on the Senate's latest actions. Recently, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez announced a twenty five step plan to increase security at America 's borders, strengthen interior and worksite enforcement, streamline existing temporary worker programs, crack down on employers who hire illegal workers, and enhance worker verification mechanisms. Also, the Senate passed H.R. 2638, the fiscal year 2008 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. This bill included a unanimously adopted resolution that Senator Isakson and I introduced, that calls on President Bush to send an emergency supplemental spending bill to Congress to fully fund border security and interior enforcement activities. This bill included an important amendment, which I cosponsored, to authorize and provide $3 billion to secure our southern border. The funding will be used to achieve full operational control over the entire U.S.-Mexico land border, by constructing 300 miles of permanent vehicle barriers and 700 miles of border fencing, deploying four unmanned aerial vehicles, installing 105 ground-based radar and camera towers, and obtaining the facilities and resources necessary to detain up to 45,000 aliens per day on an annual basis. Moreover, it will provide for the hiring, training and deploying of 23,000 Customs and Border Patrol agents. Immigration reform is the most important domestic issue facing our nation today. The President and Congress must work together to secure the border first. Once this is done, we can work to resolve the collateral issues. I believe we can get there, but we are not there yet. |

You show me a democrat who will run against him on a platform of eliminating the '86 machine gun ban and I'll vote democratic. But I'd rather have a bunch of illegals made citizens then have a bunch of illegals and have my guns banned. Sorry guys but that's just the way I see it. |
I think the answer is to run a better Republican against him. I don't vote for Democrats as a rule. |
No need. The black helicopter over the house is cooling things down nicely. The joke is on them, I've got my tin foil hat on. heee heee |

Cletus-He's not going to lose the nomination. A incumbent CAN'T lose a nomination. It's just not going to happen. That means voting for a democrats or third party. I'm not handing the senate over along with the whitehouse. |

I got the same e-mail. Along with the one when they knew the bill would die. It's a shame really, I dont understand why he was in on this.Saxby that I have shot with and talked with, didn't think this way. Politics I guess. I do know that if you write and point out things, you get a more personall response, vs. the form letter. ETA: I must still be half asleep. When I first saw this topic,m I read it as "Sexy Backpacking" |

I will vote third party before I will vote for our supposed conservatives. I have had enough of this, lesser of two evils vote. The republicans are almost as bad and nearly as corrupt as the democrats. They will continue until they get their asses handed to them in a few elections, its way past time to remove all incumbants from power. They have been corrupted and can be bought off with promises of a few earmarks by the president. This buy off applies also to pres hilliary and a new AWB. A wolf in sheep's clothing is much more dangerous than a wolf in the open. The amnesty bill would not have just been, "a few more mexicans" it would have meant voting rights and millions more voting themselves handouts. President hilliary and the 90 percent democrat congress that would result would ban guns outright, devastate the economy, welcome the terrorists, oh and we only pay 50%of our money for taxes thats not our fair share it must be 75% (gotta pay for all the programs somehow) |
bingo! When are you gonna run??? You got my vote. |

Sorry man I gave up politics back in the 90's in Minnesota. It sucks the life out of you. You can't field a candidate who believes in things like we believe in. For every one of us there is a rabid liberal for counter balance and then three are 8 apathetic joes who don't care about anything other then dinner tonight and picking up a pack of smokes before work in the morning. People see government as a monolithic entity which they have no connection to. Civics is not taught nor understood any more. The bureaucracy just marches along and citizens try to stay out of its way. Most people don't even do their taxes any more. They have their money sucked away all year and never notice it and then they take it to a machine in wal-mart and find out they are getting $350 back and are ecstatic. How do you lead a revolution of people who have no idea what their government is? |

That post is spot on! I work at a university, and som of the students i see here and have contact with, well, it scares me that they know so little. Maybe my upbringing, maybe just the way I am, but I have always bothered to know how the people who govern my country do their jobs. |
