For shits and giggles, I called the Martinsburg branch to find out the status of my Form 4 for my SWR Omega30. I sent in the paperwork via Priority Mail on September 11, so I realized that it even being in the system was going to be a longshot. Well, I called today and was told that it was approved yesterday on September 20-9 days total! This is my second time sending a Form4 in for approval using a trust-the first time took about 32 days before approval. |
Nope, should be a few days though-I gave an approved time, not mailbox to mailbox. I'll give the box-box time when the Form4 arrives at Allen's. The can came from the good folks at Polite Society Inc. While it was a bitch of a wait waiting on SWR to get the can made, I certainly can't make any complaints-I'm getting a free .22 Warlock out of the deal. |

Other companies can be very slooooooooooow getting product out the door. Gemtech is one of the worst. Joe (SWR) makes some nice cans but is often very slow getting product out the door. We should have our arfcom dealer account activated soon and then I can tell you more. Hey, Bill, guess what can I'm playing with right now?

Hey Book, if my paperwork comes in this Saturday, will Allen call or will I have to wait until Monday? I've just got this feeling in my gut that the approval for the Evo 9 is going to be in the mailbox on Saturday. Is he open to bribes if it does? Edited to add: I'm smoking BBQ on Friday night that will be ready for Saturday morning. I'm going to be smoking two 8lb. Boston Butts for about 14 hours. Yum, yum gimme some. |
Make sure you wipe my fingerprints off that thing.
|
Don't worry, I've let about 60 other people handle that can since you were here. Oh, should I post the pictures of me driving spikes in the ground with it? Mark |
|
Damn Mark, why'd you have to go teasing me! I'm glad everybody else has had a chance to fondle it as I haven't even laid eyes on it yet. Bill, I can handle the brown sludgy stuff-I'll just make sure I wash my hands before I eat I agree with Mark said about SWR, I have no idea about Gemtech and I haven't read great things about AAC's delivery times either (luckily PSI keep those in stock though). Granted, I have never heard anybody say anything bad about Joe Gadinni, but be up front and let us know what's going on. PSI had payment for this back in June, at which time Joe said that it would be 2 weeks before it would be ready. Well, about 3 weeks later-Allen makes another call and he's told it would be another 2 weeks. 2 weeks after that, we were told another 2 weeks at which time it arrived on August 15. I've waited for custom rifles before and other things that had to be made and I do not have a problem waiting if you are up front and tell me how long it will take-I'll wait a year if I have to, but tell me I'll be waiting a year. I had made up my mind that if it wasn't there after the final 2 weeks, I was gonna tell them to can (pardon the pun) the order and I was gonna go with an Ops Inc 12th Model. Luckily, it came through at that time. I was never concerned with being ripped-off because of Joe's reputation, but I want to know up front how long things are going to take. |

for all the folks that are waiting: As of 4pm this afternoon, nothin in the mail for our in-Georgia customers. Some folks in PA and TX are going to be happy soon, though. Because of the unpredictable nature of getting product from vendors, Book and I have made the decision to stock various products we believe in and want to sell. We don't like to wait, I can see why other shooters don't like to wait either. We haven't had the opportunity to test everything we find of interest. I'm patiently waiting to see the results of Lawman's SWR Omega30 tests, for instance. It certainly seems like a quality item. We actively recommend Gemtech's Viper series, due to the excellent attachment system. We're set up with YHM, and will be evaluating them soon. There's more, but it'll have to wait. ![]() We want you to get quality stuff. As we learn more, we'll be stocking more items. I want to say Thank You to the Georgia Gang for your support. You all have demonstrated the 'Do Unto Others..' ethic, which I greatly respect and appreciate. Allen |

GSU2720 and I were able to hit GSH today and do some side x side comparison between my AAC Cyclone and the new SWR Omega30. I tried a new load today using Berger 190grn VLD's which didn't work worth a crap for me and need a lot of work. I was only able to keep it at about 1MOA and just couldn't get it any less. I had Chris shoot my rifle both suppressed and unsuppressed using the Cyclone and Omega30, while I stood slightly to the rear and about 15ft away. No fancy equipment here, just my standard issue Mk1 Mod0 ear. I'll concur with what a lot of guys suggest in that when going with any of the known quality cans, go with whatever is cheaper or in stock. With both can's the sound level was very similar, with maybe a slightly different sound signiture. Neither were painful to the ear, by any stretch. This was using M852 Match ammo through my 22" Schneider 5P barrel. Some other notes: -The Omega30 was noticable lighter than the Cyclone -The point of impact change for the Cyclone for Suppressed/Unsuppressed was nearly 5.5MOA and raised the point of impact. -The point of impact change for the Omega30 for Suppressed/Unsuppressed was approximately 1.75MOA and also raised the point of impact. I plan on running both over a Chronograph this week to see how they perform. If I remember correctly our local crack (NFA) dealer Bookhound ran the Cyclone over a chrono the last time out to GSH and it only boosted the velocity about 8-10fps. That was what I expected considering that they are supposedly made without a Freebore Boost in mind. The Omega30 is supposed to have a Freebore Boost and I'm quite curious to see how much of a boost I get. |
|
Thanks for the review! I'd like to see these chrono'ed again. That's a lot of trajectory change from only +10fps. Was the correction only in the vertical; no windage changes needed? Did you put the cans on/off/on to confirm the zero repeatibility? Please weigh the SWR for me, if you're happy with it I might need to stock a few of them, too. |
|
The horizontal POI change was very minimal for both cans at probably about 1/2MOA for each can, with most of it being vertical. The cans were taken on and off several times throughout the day and they both showed to be very repeatable in that regard. I'll have to check the weight for both cans and am curious. Silencertests lists the Cyclone as being at 30.5oz and the Omega at 27.6oz, but it feels like there is definetely more than a 1/4lb difference. We just may have to make use of that postal scale as I don't think I have anything that precise for smaller items. |
|
I weighed my cyclone about two weeks ago with a old trigger scale and came up with 32oz. Sorry to hear about the crappy results with the VLDs. Call GAP up and ask for Tim Roberts (Moon) and ask him what chamber he put in my rifle. I am gonna request that same chamber in ANY 308 I ever do again. If you think AAC, SWR, Gemtech have a long wait time...........try JET. Been waiting 8 F*#KING months on a 6mm can........some bad customer service and several lies later I am still waiting on my F3 to clear so I can get it to my dealer......I was told 6-8 weeks to start with. Then was told first week of June that they were waiting on ATF to approve the F3........The F3 was not filled out until JULY 18th!! |
I would figure that there is roughly a 1/2lb weight difference between the 2 cans, so the 32oz figure for the Cyclone seems about right. Don't worry, I'm not done with the VLD's yet As for the wait, I didn't have a problem waiting on SWR to get the can to me. I knew it would be here eventually, but just give me an up front time frame. The 8 months that you are waiting for the Jet is rediculous. I know some guys that I really respect using the Jet can and it seems that they are awfully quiet right now regarding the problems. Bill Huskey has his can and not much insight into Jet-Frank on the other hand has a pretty close relationship with Jet and has remained quiet, unless he's saying something behind the scenes. Either way, they need to quit the excuses and get the product out the door. If I remember right, Huckleberry bought one of thier cans also and couldn't get it to thread on worth a crap onto his rifle-crap like that is BS. |

The lettering looks good though!
