So, I just put a new RR lower together and thought I would put my Bushmaster upper on it just to function test it. Seems that the rear lug on a BM is to long to fit in a high shelf lower. No big deal, since I don't plan on using this upper on this lower, I was just messing around. Question is, are there any other uppers that will pose this same problem or is it just BM?

I was hoping to find a BM V-Match upper for this lower. I guess I could just get the file or sander out and do a litlle remodeling, right. Any other problems to expect?

You sure it is too long and not just too tight?  A VERY tight fit is a common issue with BM uppers and RRA lowers.  Copious amounts of CLP and you still might find yourself banging on it with a rubber (not a claw! ) hammer to get them together.

I've had the same issue before with RRA lowers and BM uppers.  They've always fit, but they've been tight as hell.

I'll try again tomorrow and see if that is the case. It sure looked like it just wouldn't fit.  I read where someone else had the same problem in another thread.

Maybe a little more gusto and grease will do the trick. I'll check with the mic first to be sure.

Dremel. BTDT. RRA lowers are notorioulsy crappy fits. I'm sorry I ever bought one for a parts gun.

Problem solved. It took a tiny bit of filing where the rear lug comes together with the receiver to make it fit. It was the Bushmaster that was out of spec. The lower was right or over spec by about .010.  Just a bit of sloppy machine work on the part of BM and not a good square shoulder like it should be.

Give jkiser, a local Georgia Hometown Forum and site vendor, a call on his CMT/Stag lowers.  He's got great prices.

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=329926 - $99 stripped

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=311790 - $225 complete w/ 6-position stock

Good stuff; good guy.

The RR was not the problem. The problem was less than perfect milling on the Bushmaster.

I have a RRA lower and it's awesome. A friend also bought a RRA lower and his is awesome as well. It seems 1 bad apple so far. Mine works great and actually has out performed a friends Colt. I approve of RRA all the way, and i guess the DEA does also. Just my opinion though.

Is no one listening? It is not the Rock River Lower that was the problem. It was in fact the Bushmaster that caused the holdup. The RR seem to be perfect. In fact the whole lower looks better than my Bushmaster Lower.

There's a thread somewhere that address's that exact situation.
Both of my builds have been on RRA lowers. Everything fits perfect.
The Bushmaster lug is just a few thousants to long or deep, file to fit.

In my opinion this fit problem isn't a bad thing. Consider this, most people complain about loose fits between the upper and lower. By using the dremel to make a custom fit that rifle should be nice and tight.

Sounds like a good thing to me.

I have several RRA lowers and several BM uppers. They are a very tight fit but all the BM uppers will go on the RRA lowers. Never had a problem were a file was needed. Just some good oil or grease. I really liked the tight fit to be honest. Although, I do prefer the BM lowers over the RRA. Yes, RRA does have a nice finish on them but IMHO I think BM is better quality. The new (BFI serial) lowers have just as good finish as the RR.

I have a friend that is trying to sell a V-Match upper, let me know if you're interested and I'll try to get in touch with him.

I had a similar problem with a Century(CMT) lower and RRA upper............had to file a bit from the lug to make it fit into the lower, and now it comes apart very easily
