to commemorate this occasion, I'm going to go not back down to some punk this evening. Are you looking at me? Are YOU looking at ME? I KNOW You ain't lookin' at ME! Just kidding. I'll wait until it's law before I go around no backing down, offing BGs. No, really. Just kidding. I feel safer already. another worthless post brought to you by the crew at "I can't wait to get off work". |

I hope and pray none of us ever have to avail themselves of this good law. We all will benefit from it as the criminals learn that their protected status no longer applies. Georgia will stand up against crime! Maybe next year we can acheive true personal security and get rid of the public gathering restrictions on firearms licensees. |

The voting record will be on this page when they update it. Probably next Wed -Thur SB396 - Legislation Record |

I see that Sen. Chip Rogers voted FOR the bills passage. With all the Illegal Immigrant flack he has been getting, he might need this new law. A spanish language newspaper put a picture of his house and a map of how to get there last week. I heard an interview with him last night and he stated that his wife and children will be staying somewhere else for the time being. This is very disturbing that a mans family is being threatened and afraid to live in thier own home because he is trying to reinforce our immigration laws. I think that the national debate will get real nasty. I'm affraid that the Republicans in congress and the senate won't have the balls to do the right thing. Chris |
I'm going out to look for my briefcase!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, stacked spanish newsprint burns just as good as anglo... right? |
Sure would be bad if someone came over and messed with him............he might have a case against the paper

Congratulations to the Legislature of Georgia. Use your renewed right with great care and prudence or it shall be surely lost. Score one point for citizens right to self-defense. ETA Link of legislation... http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/sb396.htm |
I guess it becomes law when he signs it. So I think what I am really asking is when does it go into effect? |

GOA alert (Asking us to call/e-mail the gov to ask him to sing the bill Earlier this month, GOA encouraged you to ask your legislators to oppose any effort to "tinker" with this excellent bill. Well, we are pleased to report that no harmful legislation has been added to it. So please contact the governor right away in support of SB 396. ACTION: Please contact Governor Sonny Perdue and ask him to sign SB 396 into law. Here is the contact information for Gov. Perdue. PH: 404-656-1776 FX: 404-657-7332 E-mail: [email protected] ----- Pre-written letter ----- Dear Governor Perdue: I urge you to support SB 396 and sign it into law. The bill, which would emulate Florida's recent "Stand Your Ground" law, would positively change our state law in the following ways: * Remove a person's "duty to retreat" if he or she is unlawfully attacked by another, hence, allowing them to "stand their ground;" * Bar an anti-gun district attorney from prosecuting gun owners in court if they do happen to use a gun in self-defense; and * Prohibit a criminal, who's smarting from the wounds a gun owner inflicted in self-defense, from suing the defender in court. Again, I hope you will support SB 396. Thank you. Sincerely, |

I called Sonny and talked to him for about an hour. I told him he shoudl come to the suppressor shoot with us and he said he'd try to make it. He said he wanted to try out his Pilot of his Hammerli .22. Not really- I just talked to the scretary and asked her to pass on my message that he should sign the bill when it comes to his desk. |
According to UGA, the bill becomes law when it is signed. The law becomes effective the folowing July 1, unless there is wording in the bill that states otherwise. Reject, you are correct. The bill becomes law whether the governor signs it or not. If it is rejected, it must receive a 2/3 vote in both the Senate and the House. |
Gotcha, thanks for educating me. "I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on captitol hill..." |
So, the exact opposite of a "pocket" veto at the Federal level? |
That is my understanding. As long as it is not rejected by the Governor, it becomes law whether it is signed or not. |
That's what some members say but I talked with my state rep at length and he said that it was not the case. He said some of the bills just got lost in the rush to get things done. |
|
Can someone update me on the status of SB 396? It is my understanding that this bill is waiting on the governor's signature. My understanding is that he has 40 days to sign/veto the bill before it becomes the law of the land. It was sent to the governor for his signature on the 4th of April 2006. There are rumors that he is talking to the local DAs for some reason to veto this bill? Any true to these rumors? |
|
The theory being floated is that Sonny is scared of loosing the suburban woman vote if he signs this bill. He thinks that he'll lose to Cathy Cox. I agree that he'll lose based on my informal poll of republican women and disillusioned republican men. That fear is also why he arranged to have his republican buddies kill concealed carry reform in the legislature. We'll see what he does. Either way, I doubt he'll make a big press conference announcing his decison. |
So, because so many so-called "Republicans" are "disallusioned", we lose a good chance to get some changes done. Fucking brilliant. |
Well, I guess the theory is just so much bullshit. He signed it. |
Really? I don't see any announcement of the signing, even on Sonny's page. |
| I still see nothing on Sonny's website about his signing SB396. There are two entries for legislation signed today, but SB396 does not appear on either list. |
www.gov.state.ga.us/press/2006/press1133.shtml Buried in a whole list of bills he signed on the 27 April 06 |
