| About how long has it been taking to get a ccw permit in Cobb county? Thanks. |
When I got mine in Fulton County it took exactly 99 days. It was the longest 99 days of my life. The thing that sucked is the day it came in the mail, I had been out having a few beers with buddies and couldn't make my inaugural first carry to Wal-Mart. I carried it to the office the next day I was so proud. Then I decided to look at the HR handbook and then found the no firearms clause. It went back in the car. Bummer. |
I filled out the paperwork the end of July, finally got it mid-November. A very long time. I'm guessing a lot of .gov poeople took vacations. I don't usually carry, my handguns are all full-size double stacks, but its good to have that option. |

Hey guys, I am moving to GA from FL this summer. Currently I have a FL CCW, can someone enlighten me on the procedure for GA? Is it a state wide permit or issused by the county, I will be moving to Union Co. if that makes a difference. GA has resiprocity with FL, can I carry there on my FL permit until the GA permit gets approved?? TIA |
the permit is issued by the sheriff of the county you reside in. Since FL and GA reciprocate, you should be fine with your current license for a while. |
Correction. The permit is issued by the probate court of your county. The sheriff's office might do your fingerprints, but the magistrate court issues the licenses. The day you go get your driver's license, apply for your Georgia CCW. Your Florida license will be welcomed here. Be sure to check www.packing.org or www.personaldefensetraining.com for a good explanation of how the Georgia CCW permit works. It is somewhat more restrictive in Georgia than it is in Florida (i.e. no carry anywhere that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises). Some of us plead ignorance on that one if you know what I mean. Edited to change: It is the probate court, not the magistrate court. |
I would see if Florida will let you transfer your license to a non-resident permit. Between a Georgia CCW and a Floriday CCW, you can carry in about 30 states. I certainly would not let it expire. |
oh yeah, sorry. I just remembered waiting around at the sheriff's office for a while. forgot about that other office i went to. lol |
I stand corrected, it is the Probate Court where you get your license. Here's the link to find your local Probate Court. www.gaprobate.org |
As soon as you become a Ga. resident (apply for a Ga. driver's license with a Ga. address) your Fl. CCW becomes invalid in Ga. This is spelled out in the Ga. law. Out of state licenses are not valid in Ga. for Ga. residents. Go to packing.org and follow the link to the official state of Ga. site on laws, read and heed. Make sure you join us at a group shoot when you get here. |
