So, does anybody here have any leads on any 6.8 SPC ammo? Does GA Precision do any 6.8 loads? Just curious if any of you guys have seen any around?

Don't know of any place having any on hand. I've been loading my own since Sept. This is your best bet right now. If you don't reload and know someone who does i would see if they would either load for you or let you use their equipment if you supply the compnents. Brass is a little tough to find right now also but easier than factory ammo.

I agree with RiverRat. I just got my 6.8 up and running and managed to get 100rnds of factory ammo to shoot. I just got my hands on 500pcs of brass so I'll be set for a little while.

Reloading it definetely the best way to do it right now.

What kind of velocities are you getting with what bullet weight. IIRC, the advertised was 115gr at 2600+/-fps.

I'm holding out on buying a 300 Whisper barrel until I see what happens with the 6.8. I'm sure it's here for good, but the only downside other than availability is the fact that USGI mags are reported to not work well enough to rely on. At leat with the 300 whisper I can use my mags.

Kletz,
I havent done any velocity tests with the factory ammo but only because I dont have a chrono. I think Zak had chrono's it in the sticky at the top of "ar discussions" forum.
USGI mags wont work with more than 5 rounds in it though an AR. I think the only place to get factory mags is PRI. I got 4 2 15 rounders and 2 25 rounders.

Here's my rig. I havent shot it for groups yet but I was nailing steel out to 650yds with it this past Sunday after quickly sighting it in.

Lawman,

You must post pics of your collection.  This is the 2nd AR that I have seen that is something else.  Hats off for a really nice 6.8!

Jerry's Sport Center has it in their wholesale catalog. I'll see if I can get some.

Per Vedubin, here's a couple of pics from my collection. I dont have any of all the other stuff but here are the precision rigs and of course you've already seen the Mk12 Mod1.

Here's my Mk12 Mod0, this is the one Vedubin originally painted but I later repainted for a class I had to take.

Here's my USMC DMR clone. I have since added a Leupold MK IV 3.5-10x40LR M3 and a Smith Enterprise mount as opposed to the ARMS #18 in the pic.

Here's my G.A. Precision built AR10 w/ a Mike Rock 5R barrel, Knights SR25 RAS, Badger Rings and Nikon Tactical      4-16x50

Also for 6.8 Rem SPC ammo you can go to www.pcammunition.com. The price is around $100 for 100rnds but if you figure that the Remington factory stuff is going for $20 a box, the price is similar and I'd be willing to bet that the ammo from this place is more accurate than Remington ammo.

What did GA do to the AR10 beyond assembly? IS it tuned specifically or what? I'm contemplating building an AR10SD and the barrel is the hinging part. Who's to use.

Specifically, George reamed out the barrel to get the most out of bullets that are seated to magazine length. Also, the 5R barrel gets you more velocity and is a whole lot easier to clean. You cant go wrong with having them build your rifle and there turnaround time is relatively reasonable.
