I have a 4 year old that has expressed and interest in "camping out" in a tent and is dying to cook hot dogs on a campfire.  Anyone know any good parks where I could take him?  Prefer something near water to possibly fish/play in and keep him busy or somewhere for short hikes.  It will probably be for 1-2 nights at most for now to see how he likes it.  Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure where you are in NC but Jordan Lake, approximately 45 minutes west of Raleigh, is perfect for what you're wanting. There's a few campsites around the lake that open and close depending on the season.

Most of the state parks have excellent campgrounds, that's where Id start with a little guy.

We especially like South Mountains, you can get a campsite right on the stream.
