There are a number of local races where incumbents are running unopposed.

There are a number of these that I don't support. My question is, will leaving that part of the ballot blank make it a "spoilt" ballot essentially voiding the entire ballot?

No, it does not.

I leave a couple races blank every time I vote. If I haven't had the time to research it, I skip it instead of potentially voting for the wrong person...along with the situation you mentioned above of a single candidate I don't support.

I just asked my wife that question.  They're going to win regardless, so why vote if you've never heard of them.

So I'm leaving a few blank

Yep, I asked the poll workers this morning about it and they said to leave it blank if you want to. The funny thing was they looked at me like that was the most bizarre question they had ever heard.
