Going down in two weeks to Brunswick County NC to look for land to build a retirement home.  Any words of advice regarding areas to go or stay away from.  In addition, how easy is it to get a CCW permit, Suppressor and SBR license. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Welcome and have an open mind.  This is the south and I'm assuming your above the mason dixion so we do things a little slower.  I hope you enjoy mosquitoes and humidity too.

Stay away from Oak Island/Southport area unless you love traffic.  Supply and Shallotte are nice.  If your into HOAs and are from NY then you will fit right in at Brunswick Forest and Saint James.

SBRs and suppressor are easy to get as long as you have a trust.  Ingram won't sign off on anything.  CCW is also easy to get but you have to take a 8 hour class and pay a $90 tax/license fee.

I always wondered how Ingram was on that.  There are a few areas in Supply/Shallotte that you may want to avoid but the majority are good areas.  Closer you are to the coast the higher the price of land.  There are couple of ranges off 211 (Ant Hill and Ye Olde Gun Club) and several game lands for hunting (Green Swamp, Juniper Creek, Brunswick and Columbus County gamelands).  Besides the normal game there are gators and quite a bit of black bears.

What are you looking for? Acreage near everything?.. Out in the country??.. Or neighborhood living? What kind of budget do you have to spend on land?
