I just want someone who can and knows how. Or even someone who has the gauges and will sale or loan them. Dont really care, just want to shoot my new gun. New? Go shoot it. Seriously. If it really worries you, let me know where you're shooting and ill put the first 30 rounds downrange for you I'm in Charlotte. |

You might try Hyatt Guns. Ask for Roger Ascue.

Yeah well that was my plan but everything I read about putting your own together, they say check the headspace first. |

OK AR 101, Almost always without fail if you buy a barrel that is commercially made it is already headspaced from the manufacturer. I've built tons of ARs and never had any issues. |
|
Also just keep in mind that all new BCGs can experience some lockup until the lugs get "broken in". No big deal usually just shoot it. 100 rounds and good lubricants go a long way to minimising this issue. So clean the barrel prior to shooting. And hey rule #1: A dry AR is a malfunctioning AR! |

But i thought the head space problem would be with the bolt? |

I just bought some CLP. I've been using Hoppes solvent to clean the barrel, then wipe it clean. With the CLP, would I do it any different? |

With the standard BCG you normally won't have a problem OK AR 101, Almost always without fail if you buy a barrel that is commercially made it is already headspaced from the manufacturer. Yeah well that was my plan but everything I read about putting your own together, they say check the headspace first. In firearms, headspace is the distance measured from the part of the chamber that stops forward motion of the cartridge (the datum reference) to the face of the bolt In other words headspace is a function of the chamber not the bolt but to the point of the chamber where the bolt face meets the cartridge http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d0/Headspace.png OK AR 101, Almost always without fail if you buy a barrel that is commercially made it is already headspaced from the manufacturer. What caliber? standard 5.56 stuff? or......? It is 5.56 OK so you really should be just fine. DPMS and PSA have both been very reliable for me. Some of PSAs stuff will surprise a few people as to how good their stuff really is. |

Let me just preface this with " Opinions are like a-holes...Everybody has one and they usually stink" LOL that being said My humble opinion is that most of the stuff out there is perfectly good but not great. After much frustration on my part with the short comings of the common products I switched over to Froglube and so far I WILL NEVER be going back for the other stuff. I was shooting a .50 cal AR which was not cycling exactly right. Checked everything with the gun and it was all perfect, then I noticed all the gun oil had evaporated or something cause it just wasn't there. Froglubed it and it has never malfunctioned again. And that's just my opinions. |

Not that much. you could have your bolt lock up but like I said that might happen a time or two when it's really new. a round could get jammed in the chamber but the odds of that are minimal Quoted:

I would say that anything is possible but as I said before, I'v built TONS of ARs and never had any of them explode so unless you've done something extraordinarily wrong I would think you'd be ok |

Have you cycled any live rounds through manually? Or better yet cycle some snap caps or dummy rounds through manually. it should eject them same as a live round. If that works as expected you can feel a little more confident. Yes, I cycled a few. The first time I loaded 1 round in the mad. Wanted to see if it would chamber, eject and if the bolt catch was working. All went well. The second time I loaded 4. Everything went well with the first round. I ejected the first round and the second chambered. When I went to eject the second round, it didn't eject and jammed the third round underneath it. I cleared it and started over. After starting over, they all chambered and ejected correctly. Any thoughts on that? Should I try it again? |

Glockman
I live in the Mint Hill area of Charlotte. Be happy to go shooting with you anytime. Be happy to be the first to pull the trigger for you as well if you're nervous. Also if you want to come by I'd be happy to give you some Slip 2000 EWL. I think it's a better lube than Break Free. Mike ETA. I'd also be happy to look over your build. |

What I suspect is that your manually cycling the bolt was just slow or more likely you may not have completed the cycle I.E you short stroked it. That can happen with some rounds if you get a crap one or you can also have that happen if your magazine is malfunctioning somehow. All in all sounds like it should be fine. Just get it out to a range and be aware it's a new gun. It's gonna take a little break in time. Run 4 or 5 rounds through it and run a cleaning patch down the barrel with your choice of gun oil for about the first 50 rounds and then every ten rounds up to 100. Just a little breakin for the barrel. |

Wife and I are going with a few friends to Take Aim. Thought about joining but can't swing the $240 right now. |

There's a range just over the SC border I'm probably going to join. Think it's $150/ yr. it's where we had the last home town shoot.
I have a pending job in London that will take me out of the states for a year. Until that gets worked out I'm not joining anything. Range time sucks around here. Only places I've been are the home town shoots and occasionally some private land out in the country. Anytime you want to come by just shoot me an IM and ill give you my addy and phone number. |
