| Okay, so the word on the street is that, if a NC resident buys a gun online from out of state, it doesn't have to go through an FFL. Is this true? Can an out of state seller ship directly to the NC buyer with no FFL go between? |

Absolutely not. All interstate transfer of firearms must go through an ffl...this is federal law. Now, you can physically go to an out-of-state shop (ffl) and purchase a long gun but you can't do it online and have it shipped directly to you. All transfers of firearms across state lines (where either the buyer or seller do not reside in the same state) must go through an ffl....yes, even private, face to face sales.
The so called "gunshow loophole" and people legally avoiding the background check only applies to one situation, and that is a private, ftf sale of a long gun between two residents of the same state. This is the only time a background check is not required (in NC) and applies to long guns only and not to handguns (in NC). |

I thought C&R's could go to someone with a C&R (though that technically is an FFL I guess) with no middleman. |

Right...if you have a C&R you have a type of ffl and you can have C&R firearms shipped directly to you....but only C&R firearms. (In case someone doesn't know: C&R is Curios and Relics ffl....for collectors, not for folks wanting to get into the firearms business). |
