| I took my CCW class in late 2010 and before I could finish the mountain of paperwork I got deployed in early 2011, now that im back i would like to finish the process. Will my class cert still be valid and what about my home state background check? Thanks for any help |

This info is for NC
That's going to be a coin toss since there is no expiration date set for CHP class certificates and the sheriff has the option of how long they will accept them, but there's another aspect to consider, in December of 2011 there were MAJOR changes in the laws governing the use of deadly force and concealed carry so a lot of what you learned is no longer valid. The cost of a new class will be cheap insurance against not being aware of the new laws. What county are you in? Welcome home and thanks for your service too! |

I am pretty sure the class cert. is only good for 1 year. If you haven't applied for your license within that 1 year period you would have to re-certify. There is no time limit on NC CHP certificates but many sheriffs offices have set their own time limit as to how long they are acceptable. |

Well shoot I was afraid it would be something like that. I am in Onslow county NC its not the most gun friendly place. They aren't anti ccw/mil at the sherriff's office, i got mine but it took almost 3 months due to printing the actual permits at the state level, it was backed up pretty bad. |
