| Figured I'd ask here real quick, this was brought up today at my buddies, they said you can only have a max of 2+1 present in the gun regardless of what you are doing with it. I thought it was only 3 shells if your hunting like migratory birds, and for things such as home defense or what not it is unlimited. Can anyone find the law regarding this? Thanks. |

There are no statutes that limit a shotgun to three rounds. You can have as many as it's designed for. Laws don't tell you what is legal. As to hunting, When hunting migratory game birds, shotguns must be plugged
so as to limit their maximum capacity to three shells. Hunting regs per NC Wildlife Org |
| For hunting migratory birds it is a federal law of 2+1. For home deffense, target shooting, and most anything else there is not a limit. I don't know if there is a law that says this, but I have never seen a law that limits it. For your discussion you can use the example of 3 gun matches. They use all kinds of extensions on their shotguns to get more capacity. |
| Alright thanks guys, yea I've never heard anyone else say that the limit applied to carrying one in general so I definitely had to ask about this one... And yea I didn't think of the 3 gun competitions, good point. it was just something I've never thought about so didn't want to stick my foot in my mouth lol. |

Some states also have a limit of 5 shells (4 in the tube) for certain hunting other than migratory birds. The local state hunting regs generally have firearms/ammunition requirements clearly spelled out and it pays to peruse them. |
