Hey guys, my aunt's got a problem with people walking through her yard. It's happening a lot, and one guy has already pissed on their property, which is sort of the last straw. She's not a gun person, otherwise the problem would be solved, and she's hardly a confrontational person. So what is the best way to take care of this, short of sending me out there with my arsenal and scaring off some folks?
My first thought would be a no trespassing/private property sign so that she can legally say they can't be there without any questions, and then a good fence. My biggest question though, is what to do if (and probably when) they hop whatever fence is put up? Opinions welcomed! Oh, and the reason I put it here was just in case there's anything special NC has over other places as far as property protection. Thanks! |
| Hopefully that Castle Doctrine thing will change soon. But we have a problem with people trespassing on our property and we have signs on all the roads that lead in. Honestly there is really nothing you can do about it. People will ignore the signs. I'm going with a trail cam approach and trying to document it as well as record license plates of people who drive on, then I can just call the sheriff and give them the plate number. But trying to stop people who just walk on is really hard. Try getting a big dog. |

Castle doctrine or not, there is in no way any reason for a gun in what you described. The only thing you'd accomplish by producing a gun in that example would be to open yourself up to a law suit.
While it's irritating, it's not a threat of serious bodily harm or death or sexual assault which is required for justifiable use of deadly force in NC. As said earlier, signs, fences, and maybe an outdoor camera for proof. Also a grouchy dog once the fence is in. NC Statute on Trespass Second Degree Trespass First Degree Tresspass Note both are misdemeanors and do not warrant deadly force. Call the law EVERY time they do it and document it if they can, video works wonders. Good luck! |

How about just asking them not to cross? Some people don't understand the concept of property.
If you make a big deal of it, she will end up with broken windows or worse. If someone plays nice and explains they are not welcomed it works more often than you would think. Tactical doesn't always mean guns and being and showing how bad you are. |

This might not be what you want to hear but we have had a similar problem at my workplace. You can take pictures/know the peoples names and use this info when you call the police, but all they will do is go to there residence and say there have been complaints about them doing something they should not have done, but there is nothing they can really do to stop it from happening.
My only advice would to be install an underground fence and have a very large friendly to her companion that stays inside her property. |
| If she can put up with the smell for a week or two find a barn and put fresh horse or cow manure where they walk. Spread it out a few inches thick. They can walk across it if they want to but most people don't want to. Make sure it's good and wet. It'll help the grass grow also. |

Be sure to freeze the paintballs until they're rock solid, and open fire on any trespassers that the claymores or dogs don't take care of. Problem solved.
Explosives, man-eating dogs, frozen paintballs? Man, you're worse than I am!

Put up signs.
If the signs don't work, I bet this would hurt like hell: If they complain about getting their ankle broken, tell the cops that some racoons had been getting in your trash and you wanted to try to stop them. http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-47162501710842_2152_11030539 |

Actually frozen paintballs end up with condensation, and they swell up causing tons of chops if you're using anything remotely rough on the paint................... I play paintball a lot lol Thanks for the responses guys, I'll probably just put up a fence for her and call it a day. If they hop it, she can take pics and call the cops. |
couldn't be useful, especially in an open carry state like NC.
