Yes I read the handbook linked by the NCDOJ site and the Handgunlaw.us page.

What are the restrictions (if any) for CCW in your vehicle? I only saw rules for carry for non-permit holders.

What are the restrictions (if any) for CCW or Open Carry in State Parks State Forrests and National Parks? My understanding is NO on all counts of park carry

The plan will be to rent a cabin near Asheville and go on a 25K hike each day for 4 days. I'm wondering if it's even worth the trouble since it seems outside of my truck and the cabin I can't really carry anywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks!

For permit holders you are free to carry where you like in the vehicle. Glove box, console, on your person, all are good to go. If you have non permitted passengers then you may want to keep it on your person so there can be no confusion who has control of it. You do have to notify first any LEO that you are approached by then provide your permit and ID when asked.

No carry in state parks but national parks are fine to carry, you just have to follow the standard state guidelines for concealed or open carry per the recent decision.

Thanks a lot for the input, very helpful.

As far as the parks and such, how is NC with open carry? I don't think I want to try and conceal a pistol if I'm hiking long distances except maybe in a backpack (not very useful if you need it quickly).

I see that opencarry.org says NC is a "gold star" OC state but I'm not clear if the general LEO attitude is harsh? OC is legal in OH but I have been stopped by the PD several times while doing such.

You're likely to encounter some stops if you open carry in the national parks just due to the fact it's a new thing for them and it will take time to for them to get used to it. My guess is that as long as you carry yourself in a manor that doesn't raise questions you probably will be fine. Just be sure to carry copies of the laws with you and remember, when you open carry you may need to be an educator so be prepared to do so and do it in a friendly way.

Don't give the rangers reason to hate the interactions with people exercising their rights.

Just remember too that you can not carry into the buildings and any place they have posted with the federal signs, those places are still off limits to firearms period.
