I read this section, is it just as simple as this? There's no problem with me having a loaded handgun in my glovebox? I'm going to be in Charleston for a few days. Just want to make sure there are no gotchas. Since I'm in GA there is no reciprocity for me. Wish we could get that with ya'll.
From this link: http://www.sled.sc.gov/SCStateGunLaws1.aspx?MenuID=CWP SECTION 16-23-10. Definitions. (9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver’s license, registration, or proof of insurance; |

We had a good time camping on the Yorktown this weekend. Thanks for the help.
SC doesn't have reciprocity w/ GA, because GA does not have a training requirement for a GFL. GA automatically gives reciprocity to any state that gives it to us. For this reason, I try to avoid going to SC. I spend my vacation money in FL, AL and TN, which all give reciprocity. Work on your State legislators. At least ya'll can get FL non-resident permits which helps you pick up a bunch of extra states. |

Just an FYI, for those CCW permit holders in SC and/or Georgia...you can apply for an out-of-state CCW permit in New Hampshire...which DOES share reciprocity with Georgia...and is good for 5 years, I believe...this way you would be legal all the way down to FL...for many states wide including GA and the Carolinas.
The crappy thing, is this out-of-state permit, about 6 mos. ago....was $20....and I believe they jacked it up to $100 now. It also took about 4 mos. until I finally got it in the mail. |
