I am looking for a one bedroom apartment in Irmo. A lot of the ones I have found have gotten very poor reviews. Does anyone here have any recommendations for apartments in that area? I am taking a look at Paces Brook Apartments, Columbia, SC i would love to hear experiences with them or the area. I have a link to the sight a couple posts down.
ETA: I decided not to go with Paces Brook. I picked another one that i thought was in a little safer area. |

Tried Paces Brook or Columbiana Lakes by the Columbiana Center Mall?
I lived in Columbiana Lakes for the better part of a year back in '98. It was OK. Too much female drama in the front office though. The best example was one woman tells folks to put the parking sticker in one place. Another woman has an off-duty resident cop "ticket" folks for having the parking sticker in the wrong place. Nice to start a workday with a 6" x 11" freaking paper sticker over the drivers side windshield. I should've filed a vandalism complaint with the sheriff. The sticker was not a government-related ticket, just some bullshit form they dreamed up between menstrual periods in the front office. |

I looked at paces brook's website and it seems nice, I will try to go take a look at both of those next week. I just graduated from school at Appalachian State, so I am not familiar with SC at all. Me and my Dad are gonna go down there and look around next week probably, to see where i will be working and try to find a place to live. |

IIRC, the reason I didn't end up at Paces Brook was they didn't have floor plans available that fit all our cr@p when my wife and I moved here. They had only the smaller plans at the time we moved. Lots of folks who have moved to NW Columbia and Irmo got their start at Paces. Yes, the traffic will suck around Christmas and several weekends.
AVOID the Columbiana Ridge apts across from Texas Roadhouse and the now closed Smokey Bones restaurant. It's Section 8 housing. Like everywhere else ... there's a sh!tload of homes up for rent. These are foreclosed houses or homes that can't be sold in the current financial market. You may be able to get into a rental house for the cost of an apartment. I personally never did care much for apartment living. Too many people too close. Noise. Cooking smells. Pets. Parking. Cleanliness issues in one apt. leading to bug problems in the entire unit. Apartment management can show up at any time and let themselves in for a visit. |

| Apartments are a sad situation all across Columbia. I have a friend who was paying $1100 for a 3 bedroom w/garage in a new gated complex outside of Lexington. Next to her and below her were Section 8 tenants who fought non-stop and an Indian family who burned incense often enough that everybody's apartment smelled like a French whorehouse. This was for one of the "high-end" complexes. My suggestion is to look for a condo or duplex to rent. |

After they closed and bulldozed two of the main projects downtown several years ago they gave out section eight vouchers and the riff raff and all its problems spread out like cancer. |

Well that's fantastic news |

I remember the Cola. police chief bragging about how crime dropped right after that happened. Wonder why dipshit? |
