Do you need a permit to own handgun in NC or just to purchase one in NC?
Found this: A license or permit must be obtained to purchase, sell, give away, transfer, inherit, or receive a handgun by applying to the county sheriff in which the purchase is to be made or where the receiver resides. What if you are not a resident of this state? |

Any transfer of a pistol requires a pistol permit or a concealed permit.
Does not matter if its ffl or from individuals. Does not even matter if its a gift, you still have to have one. Are you just passing through the state or are you moving here? There is no pistol registration if that is what your asking. |

Here is why I am asking about this:
I have a coworker that purchased a handgun a few years ago in his home state. I guess in the state of ohio it is not require to have a permit to purchase or register handgun. Well now him and wife are having some trouble and living apart. She wants the handgun for protect. He and his wife are not NC residents. So can she take possession of that handgun legally? |

Does he want to buy himself a a new gun from NC? Did he own the old gun before he married her? |
