I am moving down to Goose Creek (next to Charleston) SC in a little under a week so I thought I would ask the members a few questions. Any good places to rent ($600-$850 range), and I will be living by myself. I have a Virginia CCW permit, so how hard will it be to get an SC permit? I do have proof of training. Any other SC advice, close ranges, gun stores, etc would be awesome too. Thanks Jonathan |

I don't have any firsthand knowledge about renting. There are a lot of apartment complexes in the area. I work at the western edge of GC, just off College Park Road. The closest gun shop is ATP. By mentioning their name, we'll be seeing some flames in this thread. The prices on the tags are high, but I've never paid that price for a gun. I've acquired several from them. I've done homework on fair prices before going in and they've dealt. You aren't likely to get a cutthroat deal that makes them lose money, but in my experience I've gotten them into the "fair" range. I don't know about your VA permit qualifying you for a SC one. SLED (State Law Enforcement Division) would be the folks to contact. They oversee the program. If not, ATP does a one-stop shopping class. Instruction, photos, fingerprints, everything. ATP has 15 & 25 yard indoor ranges. $5 to shoot handgun, $10 for rifle. With a membership ($125/yr IIRC) you can shoot whatever you want as often as you want. The closest public range is Boggy Head out in the Francis Marion National Forest. It's a 100 yard range with a covered firing line. Note: Hot, muggy, insects, and no facilities of any sort. Still, it's a cheap place to shoot, if you don't count the gas. BTW, are you Navy? Your post has me thinking NWS/GC. |
