Just heard that Sutton Lake was bought by Progress Energy and that it's now illegal to four wheel and shoot out there. href=NC4x4.com thread

I'd heard it both ways. Regardless, it's illegal to be out there now.

I was just out there shooting on Saturday (March 1st) ....me and about 15 other people. There were a lot of people on ATVs and motorcycles as well. Where did you get this information?

ETA: nevermind....

Are there any tilapia in Sutton Lake?
3/3/2008 6:13:01 PM EDT

No tilapia in Sutton Lake (that I know of) but flathead catfish in the 40-50-60 lb range.  I understand that Progress Energy's Land is in the Wildlife Commission's gamelands program and Progress wanted to target shooting stopped for liability reasons.  This "what I heard" but is unverified info until you see it in the WRC rule book.

Right, I commented on the WRC's website about the closure.

I also rode out there on Sunday on my way out of town and ran into a bunch of people out there. There wasn't anyone shooting, but there was fresh brass on the ground. I didn't see any signs saying the land was closed either. I may go out there again when I get a free afternoon and have some more time to spend and see if I run into any LEOs.

This is my first time post in hometown, sorry its not good news.
Just a heads up to let you know I was out to Sutton lake today and a sheriff told me that their was no more target shooting or 4 wheeling aloud just fishing. Anyone know of other places close to Wilmington ?
