The wife and I are going to be spending a couple weeks in SC week after next on vacation.  We've got reservations at Devil's Fork State Park the first week and Santee State Park the second.

Any recommendation on good things to do / see while we're there?  I've left that primarily up to the wife to plan, but am certainly open to visiting good gunshops while we're there!

FWIW, I've got an Indiana CCW but as I understand it SC won't honor that.  So, my EDC will be a CRKT Crawford-Kasper Fighting Folder instead of my Kimber Compact CDP.  I've given some serious thought to throwing the Vector Underfolder AK in the trunk along with a few 30-round mags of 7.62x39 as well.  What's the laws down there on a cased rifle in the trunk (or if we take the SUV) in the rear cargo area?

Hi.  Devils Fork State Park is a nice state park.  Lake Jocasee is a beautiful lake.  I occasionally take my canoe to Devils Fork and will paddle about along the shore and try my hand at fishing (I am not very good or very familiar with the type of fish in Jocasee).  Jocasee is also a great place to SCUBA dive if you do such.  I have friends that dive Jocasee fairly regularly.  I have not had the chance to dive it yet.

I am not familiar with Santee SP.

As for gun shops, I am not all that familiar with any in the area of Jocasee. I know of a small shop in Walhalla on 28 tat is probably about 20-25 minutes from Devils Fork, but that is really all I know about.

As for guns, like the poster above said, you can carry a handgun in your glove box legally in SC.  I am not sure about the side folder in the trunk.  I have an SC CWP and always carry a pistol on me, The only time I have a rifle in the trunk is when I am going to the range.  Never been stopped though so I haven't had to worry.  The suggestion to call SLED is a good one.  I have a good friend who is a deputy. I will ask him about keeping a side folder in the trunk.

I assume when they said to me that I can carry my HG in the glove box they meant loaded.  So if a SC resident can clarify that would be appreciated.

I was not that concerned about that anyway. I just want to be able to bring the gun to the hotel. I have a fl and pa ccw so I am good in de,va,nc. I am not going to carry on the beach.  I like my handgun in the car incase I break down or you get a gang of merry theives trying to run you off the road and rape and pillage. If it is in the car it will be acessalbe some how some way. I drive a mini van so I dont have a trunk.
