There were two CMPD officers killed last night (3/31/2007) in the line of duty. The two officers were responding to a call in an apartment complex when it appears they were ambushed by the suspect. Both officers sustained hits in the upper body/head region and died shortly there after. One of the officers leaves behind a wife that is 8 months pregnant. |

Having left CMPD in 2/01 I never knew these two gentlemen, but I do have the utmost respect for them. Their death is sensless and un-neccesary. I hope the POS that did this is dealt with in the most extreme fashion. Go easy Brothers as you will never be forgotten. |
| The news reports are thin. No info on the suspect. News indicates there was a struggle, how could the suspect have fired at 2 officers, and their weapons were not discharged, how about pepper spray? This is very tragic and right now leaves many questions unanswered as to why this POS killed two men. |
The news accounts are pretty screwed up right now. About theo nly thing they have right is their officers' names. |

I have been following this story, as best I can. When I first heard 'east charlotte' I was concerned for a friend of mine in an eastern div., then I heard it was the north tryon district, but was saddened to hear the officers didn't make it. Of course, my prayers for them and their families. I hope they get all that are involved and that they pay dearly for this. Another thing that piqued my interest was the location. I just recently posted a link to a story about a couple that got robbed and raped in an apartment complex of Milton Rd, so when I heard this was in an apartment complex off Milton Rd, I looked it up, as it turned out, this tragedy occured off Barrington Dr and Milton, which is about .8 of a mile from the other incident, just a little over a week ago: MAP: Relation of Perth Court to Barrington Dr, off Milton Rd I'm not saying they're related, but geez, rough area I guess. I know some people that live in that area, that work w/ my wife, we went to a party one year at someones house a few blocks away... I hope they get these guys, assuming there's more than one, and you have to think there is, given the results. Be safe out there CMPD. Karz PS, NCPatrol, if you can fill in any blanks over time, I know I'd appreciate it. After watching entire newsbroadcasts about this, and getting very little information, I'd like to learn more details, as they are publicly available. In other words, not looking for case damaging info, just clarity compared to media BS. Thanks. |
The Milton Rd/Barrington Dr area has been a dump for a number of years. There are good people that live there, but there are also a lot of dope delaers in the area that the North tryon Division has been trying to push out of the area.
There were reports of a second suspect running from the scene, but we dont know how valid they are. As it stands right now, only the listed suspect was the one that did the shooting. In fact, it looks like the officers were leaving the scene of an unrelated call when the suspect came from behind them and shot both officers without provication. |
yeah, I'm right here at my parents house right now at Idlewild and harris and its gotten pretty bad over the years right around here, but not too terribly bad in this neighborhood. Mine tho, out off of south blvd. is kinda bad. I was up last night and swore I heard shots fired about 1:00 a.m. My neighborhood is ok but the surrounding is kinda crappy.I guess it's that way everywhere tho. |
South sure is turning into Little Mexico, isn't it? |
South Blvd doesnt have a thing on the Central Ave/Eastway Dr area. When it comes to bad areas you are obviously going to ifnd them in any area where you have a group of people live at. Aside from moving deep in to the country where you can dwell like Grizzly Adams, one of the best things to do is to pull the calls for service that are occuring within 5 miles of the location where you are looking to live. This iwll give you a good idea of what to expect from the area. |
Is there an on-line recourse for this service in Union Co? I know CMPD has one on their web site. Thanks man..... Steve |

I knew Jeff Shelton - I had been working with him for the past 6 mos or so to put together a duty carbine for him (LMT). Jeff was an extremely nice guy. He put a lot of thought into building that carbine and called/e-mailed every few weeks to discuss it. He paid for it the Friday before he was killed and hadn't yet decided if he was going to drive up to get it (I am near Raleigh) or have us ship it. I'm working through CMPD to determine what to do with it (they are discussing w/ his wife). I am more than happy to refund his wife the full amount but have suggested to CMPD that we auction it with all proceeds to go to his family. It is civilian legal (14.5" barrel but perm phantom). It is worth more than I charged Jeff and would like to maximize the proceeds for his family if possible. I'll keep y'all posted in case any of you guys might be interested in spreading the word if his wife decides she is OK with auctioning it. |
