Ok guys, has anyone from charlotte been there? My dad and I are thinking of going to check it out and see about shooting there. We have looked all over and can't really find anywhere near Charlotte to shoot outdoors. I like shooter xpress but don't like it being indoors. I estimate the drive from south Charlotte to be about an hr. Does anyone near me frequent that range? What does everyone think of it? Can you guys tell me anything and everything I would need to know about it. Chrlotte Pistol and Rifle would be closer for us and from what i hear a really nice range but I dont like the range cost or the 6-9 months of being on probation where you have to have another member shoot with you. Not a bad thing but just not for us right now. We are still learning about AR's and want to shoot at our won pace and when we want. Thanks in advance. |

Leeds is a good place. It is one hour from 485 & 77. Not a lot of people there until the weekends. Take a dust cover though. It's on a gravel road with construction trucks flying all around. Also USMCSKI is trying to get a group together to join Shooters in Statesville for $100/person. That is a great deal. If you want some company to go to one of the local ranges let me know. |

I'm off mondays tuesdays and wednesdays so I was kind of thinking of heading down there but not sure. Weekends I work 12 hr shifts so that is out. What kind of schedule do you have? I like shooters but dont want a 20 yard indoor range all the time. Plus I cant shoot the majority of the ammo I have in their range. But would still be interested if it gets down to 100 bones. please let me know. you availiable during the week? Maybe head down there one day. Thanks. |
Leeds is a great range and yes I've been there a few times now. From Charlotte it is roughly 1 hour's drive. Eveyone I've met there was very friendly and even the Rangers I've met there are very nice. Be advised that it's supposed to be paper targets only and they're held up with clothes pins, so don't forget to bring some with you. If all works out I will be moving into the area soon, but until then, it's well worth the drive. In deference to Mike_556's comments about muzzloading and bolt action, if I go rest assured I will be shooting muzzle loaders and bolt action among other things and no, we don't take up half the stations. Not sure where that nonsense came from, but it's a little more than slightly uncalled for. |
I should have clarified a little better....There is a group of either family (or friends) that I have run into twice there. They took up the right hand side of the range, and made all sorts of complaints because our semi's were throwing brass at them....I asked if we could swap one table and we could use the far right so there'd be no problems--The ringleader, a woman, was very vocal about them BEING THERE FIRST, and NO they would not swap one table. I left it at that, and went elsewhere. My comments were that if you ran into that group of BP and bolt action shooters, with one woman there--well, I hope you would have a better experience than we did. I was not knocking down people who shoot thos types of firearms, I have plenty of those myself and hunt and shoot with them.. |

That makes sense, sorry I assumed you might have been talking about us. I know what you mean about people taking up more than their fair share of territory and we try to take up as little space as possible unless there's no one else there. We also happen to be quite used to having brass rain down on us and I'm sure I've sent my share raining down on people to my right as well. |

Squamata I live nearby and go through there often. You should be fine during the week this time of year. Not busy at all. It gets real busy right before deer season. There may be a few there sighting in shotguns for turkey season. But that would be mostly on weekends. |
