If anyone in the upstate SC area is interested in purchasing a class 3 weapon I highly reccomend Gordon Specialities in Greenville, SC. James Floyd handled two transfers from out of state dealers for me and did a great job. He has a good reputation with the ATF and knows how to get things done efficiently. He is also just a great guy and will be more than happy to help you any way he can. I will definately do business with him again.

Yes, I agree. James and Patrick have really been great guys to deal with. I've gotten 3 subguns and two silencers through them and each experience was very good.
A+ all the way

I'm having trouble finding a Class III dealer in my area also.  Does anybody have a list of dealers in NC?  I'm in Winston Salem/High Point area.

What kind of fee do they charge to handle a transfer? I spoke with someone who claimed they wanted to charge him 20% of the cost of the NFA item to do the deal.
If this is true, which is hard to believe, who would pay a $2000 fee to a dealer on a $10,000 gun?
On the other hand a 20% fee on a $250 can is a great deal!
Most dealers I have spoken to quoted a flat fee around $150 for a transfer.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $150 for the transfer fee. That 20% crap is a load of %&*#.  You only need to find a Class 3 (or Titie 2, SOT) who does transfers. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY FROM THEM!!!!  They CAN sell you a full auto, silencer, etc., or you can buy from an out of state dealer or individual and let them handle the transfer for you. I have purchased 3 machineguns out of state and let the local dealer (Gordon Specialities) handle the paperwork.

A+ all the wayHey Base-Rigger, where are you? I am in Gaffney and would like to get to know my local MG colleagues. Much more fun to shoot together than alone.

You have to use a class 3 dealer in your state of residence to do the paperwork for you. They do not have to be local to you, only in the same state. If you call the ATF office in Charlotte they can send you a list of all those who can sell you a machinegun or handle the state to state transfer if you buy out of state. I have called them several times and they are VERY NICE and HELPFUL!
Most class 3 dealers do not openly advertise their services. You can also check out the list of transfer dealers on GunsAmerica.com and Gunbroker.com. The class 3 dealers usually post their status as class 3. Hope this helps!!!

I guess I should have stated this differently. The young man who had been quoted this 20% fee claimed it was Gordon Specialities that was charging it.
Now before I get flamed as I said earlier I find this hard to believe.
So I'll ask again what does Gordon Spec. really charge for a transfer?

His going rate is $150 for a machinegun. If you buy from him or do multiple transfers he may offer a slight discount. Since I used him for two guns at once he charged me $125 each. I think he told me he charges a little less for a suppressor, but I am not sure since I did not buy one from him.
Now that I read your post again, I see that I just didn't get what you were asking before. Sorry!!!

Shooters Express is a class 3 dealer, they are located in Belmont which is about 15 minutes west of Charlotte.  Not sure what the NFA transfer fee is but it's probably high because just a normal FFL transfer is $65

Gordon Specialties doesn't charge a fee at all on suppresors if you buy from them. He gets a dealer price and makes his money that way. Same with machine guns. If you by from him the transfer is already added in.

USMC2068, I'm over here in Rock Hill. We'll have to shoot together sometime.
I never know till late Friday if I'm gonna get to shoot on Saturdays though. Hard to make plans.

Well that sounds like what I'd expect from a good C2 in the way of fees.
If you guys ever come down to Charleston look me up and lets shoot.
Hope to work out the bugs with the LM7 later this week since rain is on the way.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE I have had to date purchasing guns was with James of Gordon Specialties.

I wanted to purchase a NIB Vector Uzi from them.  Patrick quoted me $7500.  I couldn't get him by phone, so I called James.  James told me that in the week or so I had waited to contact him that the price was now going to be $8500.

At the same time, I attempted to place an order with him for 2 (two) SBR AK M92 Yugo Krink receivers.  I prepaid for them and then James beat around the bush telling me that noone would sell a receiver like that.  After a couple months, he finally got the receivers in and they were NOT the receivers I wanted, even as a title 1 device.

In the meantime, I took my Uzi money and went and bought a Barrett 82A1.  As soon as they found out I had bought that gun, Patrick approached me and told me that they could have sold me an Uzi for about $6800 and that James was just "messing with me" because he didn't believe I had the money.  What does that mean?

They dropped the price of the Uzi again that same day.

I like both of them as folks, but I will never do business with them again.

A MUCH BETTER CHOICE is Henry Graham at title2.com .  He is VERY professional, LESS EXPENSIVE (he charged me $50 per transfer), and also a Distributor for a number of manufacturers.  He keeps a fairly large stock of inventory (suppressors, etc.), and he definately knows his stuff.  I couldn't recommend anyone else after my experience with Henry.

Are you a c3 ffl in NC?  If so, where are you located?  I'm looking for a supressor, and I need a local c3 to receive and transfer an AOW for me.  An IM would be fine.

Thanks.

No I am not a dealer. I am located in upstate SC and am just a plain old C3 owner. I can not really recomend anyone in NC. My only advice would be to call your regional ATF office. They can send you a list of dealers for your stste. Believe me, they will help you. I have contacted my local ATF office on several occasions, and they have always been extremely helpful.

I am glad to see you had a good experience with Title 2. It is important to develop a good relationship with your dealer. I am sorry to hear about your experience with James and Patrick. I found through actually completeing two transactions with them that they really do know their stuff as well. Maybe there was some misunderstanding or miscommunication on one or both parts, I don't know. I just know that they treated me well and were very attentive to my needs.
