Howdy, Eric!

Welcome to our little corner of arfcom.  Keep an eye out in here for meets.  I believe there's going to be a few folks at Uwharrie this weekend.  Ever experienced Tannerite?

Hello!  Yeah it is pretty great, isn't it?  AR people are really........ special.  You go anywhere that has AR's and it won't be but a few seconds and they'll ask "so... you ever been to AR15.com?"  LOL

Welcome to the site!  Hmmm....  Ever shoot one of the monthly IDPA matches at PDHSC?  I'm becoming a regular and if so it's a good chance we've met.  If not, you should give it a try.  The Tilley's are good people and put on a good match.

P.S.  If you make it, I'll be the big guy with a Glock or 1911 wearing a 5.11 vest.

Hi wolffie,

Yeah, I've been to the last two...last one was my second match ever (placed 1st in class shoting a borrowed Glock woohoo :)).  I'm definitely addited to it.  From what I've heard there's quite a few other matches around...need to find more out about them cause once a month just aint enough :)

Not sure what a 5.11 vest is.  Besides, there were a TON of people at that match...

Welcome to the site.  I lived in Raleigh for a while, myself.  Keep an eye out for the next Uwharrie Shootout/Cookout.  They're a blast....literally.

I knew there was a reason I should start competing! I shoot there as well.  Glad to meet you!

Wolfie,

I have a 511 vest as well.  Have you seen some of the new clothing they have come out with? A nice blazer, jean jacket.  And shoes too!

I want 5 of each.

Have a good one!!!!

I was just kidding about my description.  "The big guy wearing a 5.11 vest" could apply to 80% of the people there.  It is far and away the most popular "concealment garment" used in IDPA.  And most folks there aren't small.  Congrats on shooting so well.  I got second for the Marksman ESP class.  Which sucks, because it was teh first time in a while I haven't earned my 5 range bucks.  Oh well, full price next time.  A better identifier is that I am usually wearing a UNC School of Dentistry Hat, and a lot of folks come up and ask me about tooth related problems (I'm a 2nd yr. DDS student and get a fair amount of ribing for it)

There are other matches.  The best/most elaborate are at  The Range in Oxford.  Check the link for the schedule and directions.  The 3-Gun matches are a lot of fun too.  There is also a very informal match on Tuesday nights at Durham County Wildlife Club off of Alston Ave. in RTP.  Entry fee is 5 bucks, and it's very beginner friendly.  A good group.  There are others around the state but these are the ones that I follow.

Infoscout,  I have seen the various other bits of 5.11 gear.  The blazer looks pretty slick, and next time I need a new one I might go that route.  For the most part because it's pretty cheap and there stuff is generally well made.  I think Royal Robbins has realized that they can sell anything by putting a 5.11 label on it.  Much like Glock or HK.  For now, the pants are nice and the vest is for competition.  I'm eyeing a Coronado Leather Jacket for cool weather CCW.  Anyway, you should come to the next match.  It's a lot of fun.
