Hey, anyone else in NC in the process of building or have already built an ar-15 pistol???? I've got an original OA-93, and one with an ace buffer (i have a bushy buffer setup for this same gun).. I'm probably going to build another one this weekend (gotta wait til payday to pick up a lower). Just curious to see what types of setups you guys have if you have them

I want to build one bad. I was thinking about the 7 1/2 with the free float handguards. I hear the Model 1 kits are finicky.

yeah, the M1S buffer system is a P.O.S

What about the J&T kits? I hear good things about their rifle kits and customer service.

i'm not familiar with j&t... i'm not saying the m1s kit is a pice of shit.  i'm saying their buffer design is a piece of shit.. a lot of people sell the same buffer.....

All the pistols I have done 3 actually pre 94 were bastards to get to run right I used Oly Arms pistol buffers and barrels but I am thinking of using a DPMS set up next time with a pig tail gas tube. timing on these things are a bastard.

I've been doing some posting on the AR board about this lately. I'm looking to build a AR pistol in 45acp. Nothing looks all that difficult accept the buffer system. I don't know which one will work for me yet because theres alot of things I'm going to have to find out first. I'm not sure if the 45 will use the same bolt carrier or not. It would probobly make it easier if it did. I read some good stuff about the bushmaster pistol tube. But you need a special short bolt carrier for it. I guess I just need to hit the phones with oly arms, bushmaster, and kurts kustom.

I've got a Model 1 kit (JR, you've seen it) that I haven't gotten to run yet...model 1 replaced the buffer with there "new" version (basically a CAR buffer) and it still doesn't work.  I agree, timing is a bitch, and probably not worth all the hassle...but that could be frustration talking.

hmmmm i had problems with the first M1S buffer, but after playing with springs i got it to work 100% with 20rd magazines not 30
I have since used the ace system, and have gotten 100% with everything I've shot...
I have also used a carbon 15 bolt carrier, buffer, and tube and it has also worked 100%

what kind of 'timing' problems are you guys experiencing?

Tried the Wolff 1911 spring in the first M1S buffer, got mostly FTE problems, that and failure to return to battery, ejected spent round, stripped next but did not fully engage locking lugs, therefore hammer fall was not enough to fire round, only assisted the bolt to close fully.  With 'New" M1S buffer, first three rounds functioned perfectly, bolt catch did not work.  Loaded five more rounds, again all fine...then back the same old problems.  Have tried 5, 20 and 30 round mags from various sources, no help...

I've never had a single problem with this one... It's using the ACE tube.  I use a car spring that I had laying around, and I picked up a generic regular CAR buffer from PDHSC.  I have fired about 900rd through the gun with only 1 problem.  I put a #006 o-ring around the extractor, and haven't had a problem since.  The probably occured sometime during the first 200rds, could be attributed to 'break in', but after the o-ring not a single problem.
Built this one from the ground up with a M1S kit.  on a DPMS lower....
Im going to probably build a stag based ar and put my bushy buffer on that.  then i'll have a nice little trio :) one w/o a buffer, one with a long buffer, and one with a short buffer... It's almost like the 3 little bears
