Ok Here we go If you get the shotgun news you will have noticed there is a new upper in town that uses a FN/FAL type short stroke gas piston design instead of the usual "Impenged Gas" system currently used on the standard AR15/10 Stoner designed rifles. This system is also symilar to the "HK M4" system debuded at last years shot show. However the system being done for DSA will be released to the public. I went one step further and went directly to the designer of this upper a gentleman I have known for years and I ordered a 16" upper direct from him. i am not going to lie this thing is expensive 875.00 my cost but that is with a 260.00$ rail already installed so on future systems it should be cheaper. the system is by far the best ever done for this rifle it requires no special tooling and can be shot dry with no lube reliably and has had several thousand rounds put through the upper I saw with no appreciable wear. I am talking in the 10,000 range here No failures related to the upper at all no gas in the reciever and virtually no fouling!!!!!.

Next up is IOR as you all know I am an IOR advocate and i can tell you the stuff coming out this year is absolutly top notch so much so I will not be ordering any more ACOG`s if that tells you anything. they had at least 6 new scopes this year most with rugged 35mm tubes and red illumination instead of the older green many with side focus and illumination. I picked up a 10x monical with the MP8 ret it rocks. for under 200.00$

Next up Lothar walther they are producing a new barrel that is less than 1/2 the weight of a comporable steel barrel with the same wear and ridgedity properties. When i asked what it was made of Woody just smiled and said "Metal" they are not cheap but if weight is an issue these are the way to go. And they added Savage barrels as an in stock item along with AR15 CMP and AR10 barrels

Also DPMS is producing a very nice .308 "M4" right down o the flat top reciever with forward assist and collapsable stock for about 300.00$ cheaper than a bushy .308 they also have about 5 different .308`s this year and new 20 rd mags that looked really good.

Oly arms is doing some neat stuff too i ordered a new "Whitney" pistol for the wife they are shipping and are great guns for less than 300.00$.And they are back doing the OA93 pistols again I spoke with Bob Shuetz the owner who I have known for years and he told me to stay tuned they have some neat stuff coming.

Mag pull is producing a new mag follower which simulates the very expensive but reliable HK mag in that you cannot "Tilt" the follower in anyway that is a great thing for 30 rd mags. And they showed me a prototype of a fully adj AR stock to include adj cheek pieces.

I spoke to the VP of Remington in Le sales and he told me that the 6.8 SPC is a go even if the Govt does not pick it up they have had overwhelming civilian interest but are having some primer poket leakage problems and will not go all out to the civ world till it is fixed. It is above MIL Spec standard now but below Rem standard. By the way the US gov ordered 7 million Rds of the stuff. thats right 7 million!

Marty over at badger ord. is doing a neat m1913 Rail that goes on an ae flat top that hass 22 moa built right in and he is doing Savage mounts now for both the pre and post Accutrigger versions.

I know i am forgetting something but will add more as i remember it. good night all hope this helps..

Thanks for all the info.  I hope I can make it out there next year.

I doubt he was allowed to have a camera.  I think you had to have a "press" pass.

Thank you very much, Red, great report.
I'm especially interested in the gas piston uppers, and seeing the new IOR scopes. The Mag Pul followers sound good as well, and if you can sell DPMS and Stag uppers at a savings for the regular guy on here that will be great.
Thanks for the update!

Hi Red-

Did you get a chance to take a look at the IOR 3X25 Tactical CQB?  I've been very interested in this optic since I first read about it.  However, I'm a little skeptical about the mount.  It appears that the integral IOR mount is the only option, and it looks a little low (for my tastes) on a flattop rail.

Thanks!

That sight/scope is a very sturdy unit it is designed to compete with the "Acog" and in my veiw is a better glass and by the wat the m1913 rails on the tube are removable if you wish the mount is intergal but you could always add a Badger ordnance 22moa "sleeve to get a little height but I think you would be ok without it it is not as low as you might think
