I was doing some research on NFA weapon laws in NC. And I found a law saying that NC defineds any firearm which was set up to fire 31 or more rounds without reloading as a machine gun, regardless of whether it fired more than one shot with a single pull of the trigger. Is that law still in effect? Or has it been changed? It also had info about a guy named Lee that possessed an apparently semi-automatic Universal M-1 carbine with a 30 round magazine, and was prosecuted, the prosecutor apparently counting 30 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber to reach 31. Which made his a M1 a machine gun according to NC state law |

I believe that law was changed back in 1989 IIRC. Anyway no it is no longer law. Semi-autos are no longer stupidly called machine guns. However to get a machine gun in NC you have to satisfy certain state requirements along with the Feds. I don't have the URL but they are listed in the NC General Statutes under firearms laws. CRC |
