There are a lot of firsts coming up next Tuesday:
First, first-of-the-month with . . . No rent payment, No electric payment, No cable payment, No water bill, No screaming babies next door, No fights in the parking lot, No sirens at 2:00 AM. I miss civilization . . . NOT!!! |

Where are you living that water and electricity are free? I moved to an off-grid homestead in east-central Arizona. The initial investment for solar was a bit steep, about $5,000, but I'll have NO electric bill ever again. Water is free at the community well, I just have to haul it about seven miles about once a month. |

How did you find the place to buy it and move onto it??? You should post like daily or weekly updates... Stuff you see and or experience out there... Plus, we'll know you are ok... Speaking of that, It might not be a bad idea for you to give a few people your contact info and coordinates, set up some type of check in system, where if you do not check in for a set time, they call someone out there to come do a Wellness check... |

Internet is through a Verizon Jetpack, and it works pretty well. Cell service is also good. I found the land on the Internet and then spent a week out here looking at different properties before deciding. I ended up with 75 acres at 6,000 feet, bordered on two sides by BLM land. There's an active group of ham radio operators that get together every night, and the neighbors (relative term) keep track of each other pretty well. Take a look at my blog for pics, news, and views. Friggin awesome. You a ham so you can check into their nets? Definitely keep us posted with pics and stories of adventure. Why, yes I am. There's a net every night at 9:00 PM, known as the 2100 net for some reason. Right now I only have a Comet tri-bander for 2m, 1.25m, and 70cm and an end-fed (QSO King) for HF. Eventually I'll put up a tower with proper antennas. I'm trying to keep my blog up to date when there's something significant. I also have a Faceflop page. New Pioneer Blog Faceplant |
