was reading the thread in GD about old photos, and ran across This. It has a interactive map and since I'm attracted to the south central region.....
Store and post office in Stone Hill Check it out, but only if you have a few hours to waste..... |

Topaz Mill -
I grew up not far NW from here. The day I took that photo I also got a tour through the mill and the store, the owner lives across the road and came over to visit and show me around. The Summersville Mill sits in the middle of town - http://summersvillemill.org/ If you are out beating the bushes, visit the old Grimes Mill site in Wright County (smack in the middle of where I grew up). It's located on the Gasconade River just North of Rayborn. You'll have to poke around to find signs of the old mill race and a few remnants of the machinery. I'll let you do the rest of the work to find its location. |
