We are finally moved in and settled, we now call Clinton, MO home. So far we like it, but the way MO does the whole personal property tax thing is FUCKING RETARDED!! As I sit here looking out the window at the snow coming down I do have to wonder what the fuck we were thinking moving from Texas to this. If anyone wants to grab a beer give me a shout, I have yet to check out any of the local watering holes. |

I moved here five years ago. The personal property tax was a surprise. Of course now you can enjoy a proper bowl of chili. NO BEANS!!! I have NEVER liked beans in my chili... Laclede County checking in. There are no beans in chilli, you are most correct. Welcome! Best liquor and guns laws in the nation. |

Welcome to Missouri. Glad you moved and have a Car, Boat, anything else they can get a hand on....
I agree, what a bunch of BS!
What ever clown let that get started needs to horse whipped. Of course, now we have the "high five" as our newest official handshake! Now about that chilli.......

Don't put anything on the personal property tax declaration but vehicles that require a license plate.
I don't know anyone that lists their tools, washers and dryers or other household items, or other personal property, but I'm sure there are a few out there. Your taxes overall will be less here than in Texas. The personal property tax blows, but your tax on real estate will probably be surprising. My wife and I will be back in Clinton this spring some time to complete our bicycle ride across Missouri. We'll be riding from Clinton to Kansas. I used to come down there to fish at Truman Reservoir every year, before I was married. |

Welcome to Missouri, OP.
Chili has beans. Even the ICS says that beans were in early chili.
If you're ever in Jefferson City, the beers are on me. I'll be in the Sedalia area once it warms up, as there's another forum member at the air base there. Happen to own a motorcycle by chance? |

Glad ya made Mo your home. Welcome. I live just a little bit NW of you just East of Garden City.
I go to Clinton all time to the Gun Shops to look around---sometimes I even purchase a couple items. Gonna have to meet up sometime and go to Golden Valley Range to unload our frustrations sometime. I consider Chili having Beans. Only way I ever knew. Without Beans we call it Hot Dog Sauce. Ya Gotta have Beans in Chili to make sure the Sewer Pipe keeps unclogged and flowing smoothly. |

Texas BBQ ?
That's a oxymoron. Hell you use Mesquite to smoke with
Hickory is where it's at. When I went to Dallas I heard that Sonny Bryan's had the best Brisket on the Planet, so I ate there....
But seriously there is very little BAD BBQ! I've had Carolina style with the Vinegar / Mustard sauce, I've had Memphis style (dry rub) no sauce, I even want to try some of the Georgia "White Sauce". But I rate BBQ greatness on how good their Pork St. Louis style ribs are and NO ONE is better than Oklahoma Joe's ribs K.C.'s best IMHO Ribs - Oklahoma Joe's, absolutely no contest!!!! Pulled Pork - Hell, if a BBQ joint can't do damn good pulled pork they need to close
Brisket - Big Daddy's (St. Joseph) Slaw - Smoke House BBQ Beans - Jack Stack, honorable mention Smoke House Fries - Oklahoma Joe's Sauce - hell, way too many to list. My personal favorite is Brewers (St. Joseph) |
Actually... for BBQ... I like Memphis for ribs... Central BBQ to be exact. For brisket though... Salt Lick is the best I have ever had... and that particular establisment is in Round Rock, TEXAS!!... as mentioned before, if a BBQ place can't pull off a decent pulled pork they should just close their doors. ![]() |

Quoted: Welcome to MO. Lots of mom and pop places to eat at down arond the lake once they reopen for the summer. My inlaws are east of Clinton in the suburb of Tightwad. We actually stopped in front of the bank there in Tightwad to take a photo... finally found a bank for my father in-law!!! ![]() |

I get over that way quite a bit as our state office is in Columbia. As far as the bike goes, that is a sore subject between mama and me... she says no more bikes till the kiddo is out of school. |

Welcome, OP. Been on the east end of things here for seven years. Be glad you brought up chili and BBQ, pizza arguments don't end well.
For the record, beans in chili is for when you don't make enough and just want to fill folks up. ![]() Best description yet !!
Add chipotle peppers ( chopped pretty fine ) in adobo sauce for great flavor and 'cleansing' effect. |

It was robbed so many times that business is only done at the drive through. People from all around the us and foreign countrys have accounts there to show off the Bank of Tightwad label. |

Welcome from Eldon.and thanks for your service!
Our youngest just graduated USMC bootcamp a few weeks ago. We are recent transplants from Illinois and couldn't be happier. The personal property tax blows. We bought a "new to us" car shortly after moving. Imagine our surprise when we went to get plates and the clerk said "That will be $1000 sir". The state of Illinois blows, but we were used to $125/year for plates. However, the firearms laws and lack of an obscene liquor tax make up for it. As do some of the nicest people we have ever been around. Congrats on your move! |

You get a bill in the mail for PP tax, which is based on whatever you owned the previous January 1, and by now you should have received a form (from your county) to fill out listing your personal property. Your license plates should be much cheaper to renew though. I would guess more like $30 per year. |

Uh...yea. I had a title for a salvage car that had 200.00 on the title. The gal looked at me and said "You need a bill of sale. The price is too low. "
You wanna come out and fuckin' drive it around the block and tell me that after? WTF? How can they tell YOU what the car you just haggled for is worth? Assholes..... |

Welcome to the lake area! I've caught some walleyes off KK Island on Truman Reservoir. I love fishing for anything that's biting. Have only snagged for spoonbill the last few years, but they are damn tasty, I think. Steaks hold up on the grill. Pieces are good in a boil. Fresh, fried catfish and crappie are my favorites! I drive through Clinton on my way towards Warsaw. I don't know if you have your own, but outside of Clinton is the Grand River Bottoms 100-yard shooting range. I only have a narrow 50-yard shooting lane through the woods. Triple River Gunsmithing in Warsaw has a bit of history and they are the CZ Custom Safari shop. Good people. Also, they do $20 FFL transfers. |

If you ever want someone to go fishing with, feel free to shout at me!! I LOVE to fish and having just moved here from the very dry Texas panhandle I don't own a boat yet... it is coming, but mama says next spring at the earliest. |
