Hey all!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

Here's the pistol in question:

Obviously, the blue is thinning. I'd like to preserve the polished finish on the slide and receiver sides. The scratches & dings are character marks, not a real concern. I'm concerned that if I choose a spray on coating, the slide and frame will have to be media blasted and the pistol will lose the original polished finish.

I'm thinking ionbond or a complete rebluing.

Can anyone offer some experience or recommend someone local to St. Louis that can help with the decision or service?

Why on Earth is there a giant, hideous C.A.I. importer marking on a US-made Springfield 1911???

I think, it was part of an Israeli Police purchase and was repatriated.

Could they have marked it in a more conspicuous spot? Nah. At least, the lettering is neat ...

Hoping that a good hot blue will diminish the flashy prominence.

This.

Because that gun has that import mark, I'd pretty much immediately lose any concern about the polish. I'd leave it as is or DuraCote / Cerakote it in a colored finish like FDE or ODG.

Well guys, it looks like a project from this point forward.

I'm willing to spend a few bucks for protection. If this doesn't work, it's cerakote.

I had CCR do mine and like the way it turned out.  It was in good shape before I sent it to them so I can't comment on what will happen to the 'character' marks, but the cera-hide has a nice, muted shine to it.

Anyway, it not what you asked (not local), but it is an option.

Wow, didn't know ceracoat could look that nice.  Just got a 1911 and was thinking about having it done in brunt bronze but am liking the two tone more and more.

More info here.

It is CCR's house black cera-hide on the slide and CPII on the frame, barrel & small parts.  I love it.
