| So I picked up another Mosin the other day and I'm thinking that a scope in a Rock Solid mount would be just dandy. So I've started to look around and the two most promising candidates to fit my budget are either a Primary Arms 4-16x44 illuminated mil-dot or a Weaver Kapsa Tactical 2.5-10x44 illuminated mil-dot. I don't have much experience with rifle scopes other than the little BSA on my 22mag and an NcStar 3-9x40 that was about the worst $60 I've ever spent. This will probably be used for target shooting and maybe a little hunting and my main concern is whether either of these scopes can take the recoil of the 7.62x54. Anyone have any input/experience with either of these or other suggestions? My budget is pretty limited, no more than $300 tops and if i can find a good one for less, all the better (hence the two I'm looking at now). Keep in mind there is a mountain of things about scopes that I DO NOT know, but I've got to start somewhere. |
I'd rather stick with a closer eye relief than one of the scout mounts and I'm pretty sure that once I've used up my stripper clip and throw them out I can still load the rifle by hand.
ETA: I am looking at the new Archangel Mosin stock that uses propeitary mags, but that will probably be way down the line once they've worked out the kinks. |

I've heard that the Weaver Kapsa is not the Japanese Glass model, but either a Korean or Chinese Scope and doesn't have good reviews. It's been a long time since I've heard the name, and I may have it confused when Weavers were with Meade.
Anyway, take a look at Mueller Scopes, they have great reviews and very good CS, along with what I hear some Glass that compares to upper-end Leupold, but can be gotten for decent money. They're Chinese, but with much better QC. Vortex Crossfire, Redfield Revolution, Nikon Buckmaster, Weaver V-Classic, Bushnell 3200 Elite, Burris FullFieldII, Sightron I or II. |
