I have an item for sale and OP wants to use Western Union or should I stick to Money Order.
Any advice?  Scam?  Not that I have a reason to believe OP is dishonest.   However, I advertised the item locally on Craigs List with the exception of EE here.  Now I end up with somebody in TX wanting the item?   Just seems a little fishy.
Thougths?
Thanks,
Taz

I always ask for cash or MO. No exceptions, but that's me.

Go with your gut.  There is no reason a buyer can't purchase a USPS money order.

Dont do it. When I do anything but paypal its USPS money order. No reason not to.

However.

Ive switched just to paypal for anything that isnt an actual firearms because of people claiming to send money orders and then claiming they didnt arrive.

I really wish that Gunpay or Gunpal would have worked out.  But PP has a virtual stranglehold on the online payment market.

Claiming what didn't arrive?  The item I am sending?  I just negotiated using a money order.  I am not sending the item until I have cash in hand.  I've never used Western Union so it concerned me.
If the check shows, I'll cash it and move on.  If it is not here by Saturday, I'll be reposting the item for sale.

I've used Paypal once.  (I didn't like that either. lol)

Thanks for the advice!

Out of state, using Western Union? Yeah, sounds like a scam. Just too hinky.

Typo... I meant people have been either claiming they sent the money order and didnt or they just never sent anything at all and stopped either responding or later said they didnt have funds for items. Which delays sales and makes it a problem.

OP google western union fraud. I deal with these all the time at work. Funds transfers=bad idea.

I enjoy using PP for gun-related purchases.

I'm on the 'no to Western Union' band wagon, google '419 eater' for great reasons to not do it.

I had a guy send me one via UPS awhile back after I plainly stated in the ad and followup email that I only accept USPS MOs. I did some quick research and discovered Western Union is popular with scammers. They also avoid sending via USPS as that opens them up to federal mail fraud charges. I sent it back and gave the guy ample tim to send me a USPS money order. I never heard back from him.

I wouldn't take it.

I've always heard that anyone wanting to pay through Western Union is pulling a scam.  I'm sure there are honest people that use it too, but I tend to go along with what the intarwebz tells me about various scams.

I do all my online buying and selling through PayPal or money orders.  You can get creative with descriptions for PayPal.  My current favorite is "Precision Hole Punch".

I'd never heard anything negative about cashier's checks until a couple of years ago.  I was buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee from a guy in California, MO through Craig's List.  We agreed on $700 and I went to my bank and got a cashier's check.  I thought that was the safest way to complete the transaction for both of us.  When I emailed him to let him know I would meet him with the cashier's check, he got kind of defensive and said something about how he thought I was honest.  I was confused and thought maybe he was trying to pull a scam on me, so I Googled for cashier's check scams and it turns out that a lot of people get ripped off when accepting cashier's checks.  I went back to the bank and got the cash and paid that way.  While we were talking he said that he had worked for a bank and saw a lot of cashier's check scams.  Until then, I'd had no idea...
