As I began to hoard more and more ammo... it's become a bit of a problem around the house.  Aparently it's become more of an issue to one lovely lady in the house because Friday I cam home to this blocking my closet.

They are a pretty good deal, $100 from Walmart.  13"x17"54" if memory serves.  Figured with some shelves it would make a nice locking ammo cabinet.

$25 bucks later from Lowes for lumber and screws...  I cut out some shelves and supports, and the side walls.

And the finished product...

Ha had to do the same..... same wood from Lowes and everything!

Seeing as how mine is completely full already I'm wondering if I should not have opted for one that size. :)

Beauty of this setup though is these shelves will pull out in seconds and it becomes a gun cabinet again.

Well done.

Oh, and...

How many long guns would you say that'd hold.  Is it tall enough to say store ARs down low and build a top shelf for a small amount of ammo, mags or pistols?

I only manage to keep about 1000 rounds of each caliber on hand...  not because I feel that's enough, but because I'm shooting it almost as fast as I can afford to buy it. :)

I still like these as an alternative to a cheap, so-called gun safe.  While I have a high quality gun safe, it's full and some other things need to come out.  Loading ammo cans in the bottom and adding other valuables on the top would easily prevent someone from trying to carry it out.  These are tough to break into but offer more protection than the $99 safe from Wal-Mart.  Versions of these sell for around $300.

I have to store my ammo on big shelves and shit...
Little Cabinet is cute but not quite good enough for me...

I keep 22LR
556
9mm
40
45ACP
762
12 Ga
45 Long Colt
45-110 Sharps
30-06
Enough of each to hold out a while if need be...
Just too much for that cabinet!

I have a cabinet in addition to stacks of .50 and .30 cal ammo cans.

.45-70
.405 Winchester
7.92X57 Mauser
.303 British
.30-06
7.62X54R
7.62X51
7.62X39
.30 Carbine
5.56X45
.22 hornet
.45 ACP
.45 Auto rim
10 mm Auto
9mm Largo
9X19
.357 Magnum
.38 Special
.380 ACP
9mm Makarov
.32 ACP
.25 ACP
.22 LR
.22S
12g
20g
.410

Technically I also have a .30-30, but I never brought it over from my dad's place when I moved.  There just never seems to be room for it at my place.

The reason I don't own a .40S&W is because I'm tired of buying guns in calibers that I don't already own and have ammo for.

Same situation here. pic was of bedroom ammo safe, for firearms in bedroom safe, everything else is in other safes in undisclosed room in other part of house took six months of my wife walking by it to finally notice the seam for the door.

Honestly we just wanted it put away in a cabinet... and I figured since it's hundreds of dollars in small portable packages... might as well make it a locking cabinet.

LOL yeah there are a few blades in that vicinity.  I'm only allowed to have the bokken out when people are home.  Apparently I make the women of the house nervous when I'm swinging it about the confined rooms of the house.

No injuries!... (yet).

Funny you should mention that.

Years back, when decent gun deals could actually be found at a pawn shop, I was over at one of the pawn shops on Minnesota Ave in KCKs looking for just such a deal.  In walks Homey and asks the employee something along the lines of "How much fo a box of thirty-eight bullets?" to which the employee responds something along the line of "$20 for the whole box".

Homey thinks for a second and responds with "Whatchu mean 'the whole box'?"  The employee responds, "$20 for the whole box, or $1 a round".  Homey thinks on it for a few seconds and says "I'll take six".  Gotta respect a man that knows exactly what he needs for the upcoming job.

BTW, they had nothing that I would consider a deal, for me, that day.
