I'm kind of a newbie to actually getting good cuts of beef and specialty selections, ie not from Schnucks, and would like some opinions on the areas best shops.  I'm familiar with Kenricks and that's it, any others that are worth going to?

I live in Kirkwood and would prefer not to have to drive over to Illinois or St. Charles, etc if possible.   Thanks in advance.

You could check out Straub's, The Block and Freddie's for several places not far away, that seem better than Schnucks for quality.

The Block     Block

Freddie's   Freddie's

Straub's  Straub's

Dinner last night at The Block, excellent steaks, everyone was happy.

Kendrick's is the best I have found

There is a small shop called Hollands located in Fenton. They have a smaller selection but good prices

+1 on Kenricks and Hollands.  Kenricks is great for the brats and sausages, but I rarely get over there.  I go to Hollands quite a bit––they have great smoked sausage and stuffed pork chops.

Also, DJ's Market in House Springs is a good place.

There's a place called Materker's in Concord (across from Becky's on Baptist Church Rd).....never been there.

Hanlen's Meat Shoppe. You don't even have to leave Kirkwood, it's just east of Hardee's.

+++ Kenricks.  I live around the corner. Yes, it costs more than Schnucks, but they have outstanding customer service, great meat, and I had no idea how many different kinds of brats there could be.  Plus, they also have lots of sides and such.

FYI...they also did my deer last year.

It's a great place.....try the flank steak jerky.  Ungodly expensive, but delicious.  Make sure you're packin' in that neighborhood too.

Another place, if you're more interested in sausage than hand cut meats, is Piekutowski's in North City.  They make awesome polish sausage......Pope John Paul II had it for dinner during his St. Louis trip and was said to have loved it.  I've never been to the shop, but I buy the sausage at Kenrick's and Dierbergs Wildwood.

Volpi's on the Hill is also world famous for their Italian meats.  I prefer Oldani's for genoa salami, but everything else Volpi makes is fantastic.  I have seen their products all over the US.

+1

In not from StL, but I know Jim LeGrand. Met him through mutual friends on a trout fishing weekend a few years ago. Jim always brought a bunch of the food for the weekend. Absolutely awesome steaks, breakfast ham steaks, and salameat snack sticks ! Jim is an awesome guy and his shop has a super nice meat counter.
I wish his LeGrands was closer to where I live....

I am SOOO going here next week.  Something about drinking a beer while choosing what meat to grill.  It just sounds so...right.

I've been going to G&W for 25+ years.  They make the brats for Grant's Farm and I don't think you can find any better in this area. The flank steak jerky and Landjager are amazing.  I purchased some vacuumed packed landjager to send to friends serving overseas.  Their summer sausage is also excellent.  When I go deer hunting, I will usually use the local processor to de-bone and package my deer then later take the meat to G&W for summer sausage or smoked brats.  They do processing but I usually hunt too far away to bring them directly to them.

By the way, Kenricks and LaGrands sell some G&W products at their stores.
