so a while back i read these 2 articles here and here.  I got some hornady 75 gr OTM's and today found out my rifle (16" 1in9 CMMG WASP barrel) will shoot them fine to at least 100 yds.  now i want to find something better for barrier performance.  from what i can tell speer doesn't make any hunting bullets anymore in .223.  you can still buy the partitions though.  what i haven't seen is any comments on sierra's 65gr SP BT bullet.  I would think this would be a better choice if they perform due to the heavier weight and being a boat tail.  does anyone have any info or other ideas?

my end goal is to make a BoB with 2 30 rd mags of something to do barrier pentation and 4 mags of the OTM's

Have a look at the Hornady 68gr BTHP or the Hornady 60 gr V-Max (Neither have a cannelure and the 60 gr does not have a boat tail.)

Have you thought about the steel core M855/SS109?  62gr projectile with a steel core.  We have a big problem with weight in our caliber for barrier penetration.  We make it up with speed most of the time, but this is an instance where you can use material to give you an advantage.  Anything you buy from a retailer is really going to be more "hunting" type performance.

These are probably already gone, but you can find pull down projectiles pretty easy.

this probably isn't exactly what your wanting to know. but I just used some of the Barns 70gr TSX on a hog hunt at the beginning of May. out of 3 shots on hogs, 2 were through and through and I did not recover the bullets.
the 3rd shot we did recover the bullet. and even after passing through the shoulder blade and that thick ass shield hogs have, it came out weighing 53.6gr. The first shot I took was also a shoulder shot and it demolished the shoulder blade and left a decent exit wound.

the load I used was 24.5gr Varget, new Winchester Brass, CCI primer and the 70gr Barnes TSX boat tail.   and that was out of my 1:7 18" barrel CMMG AR.

my 1:9 Bushy really like the Hornady 68gr BTHP.

the through and throughs were straight holes,no tumbling at all that I could tell. here is a before and after pic for you on the one we found.
looks like the pedals just sheared off after expansion.  I can tell you on one of the other shoulder shots it was so mangled we had to throw it out. Wasn't even worth keeping. (the shoulder, the rest of the pig was fine. in fact the tenderloins were great )

now that is interesting.  in the ballistic articles that i linked it said that the barnes bullets weren't the best choice for autoglass since the petals tended to sheer off

I'm in St.Clair,MO but yes I do have at least one place we could shoot at if your interested. No gel but water jugs are no problem.
