OK, so I'm going for my CCW here in MO (Jeff City) and I was curious do you have to be 23 to take the training course? I ask because I'll be 23 in two weeks but I have the opportunity to take a class for free (saves me $100) this coming week. So can I take the class at 22 and then the week after take my certification and get my CCW? Someone at work told me that the training is only good for three days, but I can't find any info in regards to that. |
| When I took my class, we had 1 person there under 23 and he was told he could not get his CCW until he turned 23. As far as the training only being good for 3 days, that is incorrect. My friend that took the class the same day I did waited 9 months to get her CCW with no problems and she lives in Jeff City. |

I knew that I wouldn't be able to APPLY for the CCW until I was 23 but I figured that I should be able to take the training course and not have it expire in three days. Thanks. |

Right,
To answer your question directly. No you do not need to be 23 yrs old to take the course. But you do need to be 23 when you take your paperwork to the sheriff's office and go get your finger prints. I know you do great in the class and shooting part. SO, I wish you luck with the sheriff and the background check, that it does not take the full 45 days like mine in Warren Co. |

Congratulations on the free training. That is awesome.
So much misinformation out there regarding how long training certs last. You will receive a training certificate upon successful completion of your CCW course. This training cert does not expire. No where in the law does it mention a training expiration date. Also, the law does not state at what age you may take the training, only when you can apply for a CCW with your local sheriff. Bravo Young Man on taking your training and the responsibility that comes with it.

welcome to the gun toting ranks
I did my CCW training when 22, about 2 months before my birthday. Submitted my paperwork on my 23rd birthday in Clay County. You'll find your tastes in guns may expand some and that tiny (seemingly useless) KelTec P3AT or Ruger LCP become a desirable item if you intend to wear shorts or not wear a jacket/untucked shirt everywhere you go. |
