Dear Employees:

As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that
Barrack Obama is our President and that our taxes and government fees will
increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by
about 10%. But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the
dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off sixty of our employees
instead.

This has really been bothering me since I believe we are family here and I
didn't know how to choose who would have to go.

So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lots and found sixty
'Obama' bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks
will be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to approach
this problem. They voted for change...... I gave it to them.

I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.

I love it!  I'd support anybusiness that did that.  Those assholes are the ones that voted these fuckers into office, give em' the change they asked for.  Unfortunaely, this probably would result in more welfare votes for the dems.

Well if you think about it, if they ready vote for him they won't change. Best case is the fewwhp voted for him and didn't sport a sticker might just change their ways due to change they didn't like.

that would be interesting to see how this would play out if such a reason would be given in a Letter of Separation. One thing for sure this Company would no longer be in Business because they would get slapt with a Lawsuit from all sides. The sh.... Storm would be unbelievable.

If they did I could imagine a massive lawsuit would be coming their way.....regardless of political view, free speech is free speech. Exact same could have happened to any of us who sport a Glock, NRA, or any other conservative oriented bumper or window sticker.

I do find the letter humorous tho!

Not according to my understanding of MO law.  You can be fired for any reason at any time as long as you don't violate federal law:

"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin;"

I don't see anything there about political parties... and they did vote for "CHANGE".  Let 'em have it.

It is true that MO is an 'at will' state, however in my experience your better off just telling them: "I'm sorry, but we're going to have to let you go". Wrongful termination cases have to have reason that the exemployee feels is why they were discriminated against, if you don't give them one, then your pretty safe. Someday I will get around to writing my book on 'How to fire someone and them not get unemployment'.

If they did that at Ford it would cut out 75% of the employees..Which could be a good thing in some cases

Firing someone is one thing and the state unemployment will almost always side with the employer.   Getting laid off is no fault of the employee.

The real question is have you ever had to file an unemployment claim?   there are alot of people who became unemployed through no fault of their own right now and there are pricks that are trying to get out of paying the insurance claim.

So just what is your position on trying to evade unemployment insurance claims??

ds762, you beat me to it. I wonder how Noaccount would feel it he was the one trying to get a few bucks to help tie him over till he can land another job. it aint much compared to what I normially get. But it is better than nothing. I was laid off in 95 cause McDonnell Douglas decided to move it's electronics plant from MO to AZ for cheaper labor. So at this minute Noaccount you sure are rubbing me the wrong way with your loud mouth.

Perhaps I should explain that a little better: I have never once fired someone with out fault. If I had, I would have no issue paying the unemployment claim. That is more directed to people that seem to make a living off unemployment by working just enough to qualify.

I hate those people.  Thank God up to this point we have never laid anybody off in our 58 years of business.  I have fired plenty of people for being deadbeat lazy pieces of shit and with those I always fight and usually win.  If you get fired for not showing up to work, being rude to customers, or not bathing then you just suck at life.  You most likely were already a burden to the business so focus your efforts on being productive instead of trying to squeeze more money out of somebody who already paid you too much.
