i want to get a silencer how hard is it and what do i need to do? and what silencers are good im wanting to do it to a colt 6920 should i have it cut down and threaded or buy an adapter style break like a surefire or such my choice was an AAC M4-2000........you may consider if you think you will ever buy/build a 6.8spc or .308 rifle you would like to silence. If you think you might, you can get an M4-2000 in 6.8spc and it will mount onto the silencer mounts for the 5.56 version. If you think you might shoot .308 you may consider buying a .308 can and getting a mount to fit your 5.56 gun as it will work for it as well. Silencers are not that hard to get, you will need a C&R FFL in order to acquire one in MO tho. Get your C&R first. Find a good Class III dealer near you...I like B&R Guns in Lees Summit and his NFA examiner is awesome! He will fill out your Form 4 once he receives the silencer you have purchased, or immediately if he has what you want in stock. If you ask everything you need, he will also have extra forms of everything you need and give you instructions on what you need to do and where. You will need TWO passport photos to submit your Forms in duplicate with them attached. You should research whether you want to go the individual route or trust route (having a lawyer or trusting a software program to make you a revocable trust to transfer your silencers to). I went the individual route and live outside city limits in Clay County with a NFA friendly Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO)... I simply took two fingerprint cards to the courthouse and had fresh fingerprints in 10 min. I took the Form 4's with me to the sheriffs office and had them back in my hands in another 10 min. Include a certificate of compliance, your two form4's with passport photos, your two fingerprint cards.... Mail everything with a $200 check that has the serial number of the silencer in the memo section. You WILL learn patience! If you are looking for a higher end, more desirable silencer, expect to wait until one is made unless you find a dealer who has what you want in stock. Once the can arrives at the dealer, expect around 4 months (give or take) until your form is approved. Keep in mind that going to a dealer because they stock something may delay your form longer than 4 months! If you can find a place like Major-Malfunction who is stocking a certain silencer and can ship it to a dealer you prefer, you'll most likely pay $50 transfer, but you may get your silencer faster. |

EaZeNuTZ33 has provided a lot of good info. Drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.
We have several 5.56 cans available. Some like the QD mounts, the light weight and the DB reduction of the M4-2000, but it comes with a higher price tag. Some like the QD mounts and lower price of the YHM 556 Phantoms, but they are heavier. Some like the lower prices of the M4-1000 and some like the lower price and compact size of the SWR Wolverine. There are many other out there also. The SWR A2-RA should be very nice when it finally comes out. B&R Guns |
