| Anyone interested in getting a group together and doing their defensive pistol course? Possibly in May? This would give us 4 months to plan, enroll and get ammo and gear together. I can't find any classes on the east side of the state to attend that are close. Anyone from the STL side we can carpool to meet up with the west side guys. |

Hey guys, this is Lonnie, DVC would love to have another MO HTF course, I had a great time instructing the last HTF course, an I look forward to doing it again. Talk it over amongst yourselves, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I will help out with whatever you guys need to make it happen. Myself and the rest of DVC are going to the Shot Show so we will be out of the loop next week, but will be available after.

Ok, I sent them an e-mail to see what weekend dates they have open for us in the May timeframe, give or take a little. I will post here when I get a reply from them. I'm assuming it will be a week or so since it was posted above that they will be at the shot show next week. I'm fired up, from the poeple I already have in line and the posters here, we have almost enough people already!!
ETA: I also asked then about June dates so we can have a good deal to choose from to get the most of us together and go. |

My pregnant wife told me it may have to be the beginning of june. That's why I asked them for open dates in May and June. I also specifically asked about a weekend because I can not go through the week. East side guys I figured could meet up Friday night at a pre-determined rally point then convoy there. I was just gonna ask them about sleeping in the car or camping out. Others can do as they wish. I will keep everyone posted when they get back to me with dates.
As far as I'm concerned, everyone is welcome to come. I don't care what someones skill level is, we can all better ourselves. I also don't care how many we get to come as long as they can instruct large groups. I'll ask them about class sizes and instructor to student ratio. I personally don't need tons of 1 on 1. Just instruct me, show me, let me go at it, then coach me on what I can do better and How I need to accomplish that. as long as we are all safe, have fun and learn, I'm a happy camper. |

The 1st time we attended the class, we stayed at the Meth-house motel for 35.00 for 3 people. It included missing carpet and hot plate marks in the counter top. After a full day/night I was so tired, I really didnt care. The next time, we went all out and spent 60.00? for a normal hotel. I believe DVC would/does allow onsite camping but am not positive.
You guys are getting me all excited abt the class, and I'm not even going...

I thought we had something special.

Yeah. I was there last year and look forward to doing it again.
Without trying to stir things up, I wonder if it might be practical to drop a few hours of pistol time and insert the same amount time in an "express" tactical carbine session. You know, variety is the spice of life! Ed |

You know, variety is the spice of life! Ed If this is something everyone is interested in, I will ask them about a hybrid class. I'd be interested and maybe do something like pistol Saturday, carbine Sunday. I'll need to know everyone's opinion pretty quick because they said they are trying to finalize their schedule (yes, I'm waiting on a date response but they have contacted me) ETA: I sent them an e-mail to check if it's even possible for them to do for us. |
|
My $0.02 only, but I'd imagine "four mag minimum" is there because they mean four really is the minimum.
i guess it depends on your mag capacity and all, but the whole idea is that there are set breaks where you can reload and if you don't have sufficient magazines to make it to those breaks, everyone else in the class has to wait while you reload, etc. What would you be shooting? Might be able to borrow a magazine from someone... |

Beretta PX4 in 9, but I can pick up another mag by then really. That definitely is a luxury having many months to make sure everything is squared away. And, you'll want an extra extra mag. You'll be putting a ton of rounds downrange in a variety of positions and possibly rain/mud. Odds of a mag getting full of mud, bent when stepped on by multiple guys, etc is very high in classes like this. In fact, if possible, you really want to bring a full backup set of a second gun, holster, mags, extra ammo, etc. I'm not even kidding here. You'll see me there with a minimum of two pistols and their assoc. gear and/or two carbines with their gear. Makes for a heavy load in the trunk, but it definitely beats missing out on the course cause your mainspring broke, sight fell off, etc. (I've never needed my extra gear *knock on wood* but you know the saying: Better to have and not need....) |
|
Ideals vs reality in this case. I hear ya as I used to race karts and we would have two of everything pretty much, but being a college student still and just wanting to be proficient in something I bought, training makes sense. Stocking up on mags is feasible, two of everything not so much. |
| As long as they can set it, the date I've asked about is June 12-13. As long as this is acceptable to everyone and they can set it we're good. I'll let everyone know when they e-mail me back. I expect it will be AFTER they get home from the shot show, so that means probably next week. Does anyone know about MAX class sizes? I haven't gotten that answer yet. |

I'm a preacher, so getting Sundays off is, uh, problematic. ![]() Call in sick. Oh, and tentatively count me in too for the June 12-13 dates. ETA: Folks might want to think about adding some training on the other end of the shooting spectrum in theform of some low speed, high accuracy style shooting. To that end I will recommend an Appleseed shoot. I know Pioneer Gun Club wants to host another summer Appleseed shoot at their outdoor range South of Bates City, East of KC. |

Calling in sick has its own problems. In addition to the moral problem, my congregation has a lot of sweet little old ladies who care about me. If I called in sick, I'd have three of 'em on the doorstep with chicken soup wondering where I was. Can't do that weekend anyway. I'm going up to Des Moines for a Triathlon on the 12th. Oh well, maybe next time. Please keep us informed about the Appleseed shoot. |
| Hey guys, glad to see the interest in some upcoming classes. We can definately accomodate you guys and get some classes in the works. If you don't mind, give us until next week to iron a few things out on scheduling and we'll get back here next week and get this moving forward. Again, thanks for the interest and we'll look forward to seeing you in a class soon. |
