It's a dual purpose machine, you use the wind part of it to go...

Stockton lake is the best lake in the midwest for sailing or other such activities.  That is where I would try if I where you.

If they are "floaters" you should try them out. It is fairly easy to learn and a lot of fun.

If they are "sinkers" you would be best to trade them, these are harder to learn on/use.

If it is a massive board that is about 8 feet long =/-, it is most likely a floater. This is one you can stand on with out having to be moving, they usuually will have a hindged skeg in the middle.

If it is a shorter board (smaller surf board size) it is probably a sinker. You can not stand on it without being in motion.

With a floater, you can get up on the board, pull up the sail and turn it into the wind to get going, with a sinker, you have to lay in the water and lift up the sale, it will catch wind and get you going/pull you up on the board simultaniously.

If you find you don't want to keep them, try craigslist. It is free.
