I just replaced a humidifier on our furnace. The original one was already there when we bought the house and the solenoid went bad. I couldn't find a replacement so we bought a whole new humidifier. On the original one, there was never a bypass duct installed. The humidifier is mounted on the return side. I don't know enough about furnaces etc so I didn't install the bypass duct either. I wasn't sure where to run it to on the supply side because there are pipes, wires, ducting in the way that prevents me from mounting the duct level with the humidifier. The furnace is a Lennox.

Do I have to use the bypass ducting? I'm not even sure I wired the thing up correctly. Water was passing through and when I cranked up the furnace, it stopped coming out of the drain tube...

There are 2 types of humidifiers
1 has the bypass and the other mounts on the side of the duct
2 completely different units
