What do I need to do, if anything, If I want to sell a rifle to a friend?  The friend and I are both law abiding citizens with no arrests or anything like that.

If you both live in the same state nothing. There will be some that say you should get his DL # on a bill of sale.

If the buyer is, to the best of your knowledge, an upstanding guy who can legally own a gun in MO, just sell it to him and drink some brews together.

Do a bill of sale anyway........if he ever sells the gun or it gets stolen, then gets used in a crime, its last known whereabouts could get traced back to you (if you bought it from a dealer.)  CYA and show you lawfully transferred it out of your ownership.  Same goes it your buddy ever needs to prove ownership (i.e. some overzealous cop impounds it on a traffic stop.)

All highly unlikely, but CYA anyway.

3 steps to legally selling a rifle/shotgun to a friend;
1. Receive money from friend
2. Hand over firearm to friend.
3. Go to range together so he can try out his new gun
3A. When finished shooting for day find convenient alcohol serving establishment and finish off the day.

I refuse to fight the libs for gun rights and then voluntarily follow the restrictions we got lifted.
