I checked the stickies and didn't find a list of MO gunsmiths. I am looking to get a novak low mount cut and new rear sight installed on my 1911 and I am looking for someone reputable in the Springfield area to do it. I know Bass Pro has a gunsmith shop but I don't know the quality of work they do. I was also thinking about Cherokee firearms or 417 guns, but again I don't know what kind of work they do. Any suggestions?

Anderson gun works.  "Rocket" Anderson runs/owns the shop.  I give mixed reviews.  Dealt with him on a few occasions.  Some were fine and with no hiccups.  Last time I dealt with him I perceived a bit of an attitude and the experience wasn't as smooth as others.  Just small stuff but I like a vendor who will appreciate my business.

Give him a try-see what you think.  He was on College street near Kansas last time I hit him up.

Jeff Cockrum out in Rogersville works on 1911's but I've never seen his work, just sold him a pistol and talked to him. Might try contacting him. Has a website you can find by searching C-RUMS.

Rocket Anderson has done some work for me in the past with satisfactory resuts.  Based on word on mouth you might steer clear of Bass Pro Shops with anything complicated or "cosmetic" challenging.  I understand there is a guy in Nashville MO (close to Pittsburg KS) who does good work.  He is a bit far from Springfield but if you are in the area you might try him.  He is reccomended highly by the guys at John's Gun Shop in Pittsburg.

Nothing against any of the local guys, but if it were my 1911 I'd send it directly to Novak. All you would need to send is the slide so no FFL's would be involved.

ETA: Although Novak doesn't do work on CZ's any longer, here is a job they done before they stopped.

If I were getting Novak sights I would just send it straight to them. I am wanting to get a 10-8 rear sight installed. I was hoping something like machining a new notch and installing the sight would be a pretty short turn around time, and hopefully something a local shop couldn't screw up.
