Spent part of the last week visiting family in the Houston area and I justed wanted to say thanks to all the friendly people we met during our stay.  The country side is as awesome as the folks we spent time with and we plan on coming back next summer.

I'm in Rolla for the time being, and the foreseeable future.  I don't get to shoot much due to my stubbornness when refusing to pay to use a range.

Unless the government owns it, somebody has to pay the property tax, range upkeep, utilities, etc.

I know, I don't shoot at privately owned ranges, so I don't pay those things.  When growing up, I would step out the back door and go shooting.   Since then I refuse to pay to shoot, I realize I give up some small extras like a private range, organized events....etc.

But as of right now we are getting reamed on ammo prices the way the are anyway, seems a range trip could get really expensive really quickly.

You could if you could find any.   My walmart is drier than I have ever seen it.  The same boxes of ammo have been there for days, and I asked the clerk and he said that hadn't received any in about 1 week.

I thought it was getting better.

I'll be in Dalton, Ga next week.

I grew up around Mountain Grove and Hartville in Wright County, just 25 miles from Houston.

I was thinking about the area this morning; soon, I have to decide whether I want to move back down there when I retire.  If I could find a place on the Gasconade or maybe the Osage, I might just live there.

July weather is like this every ten or fifteen years, and Houston in located smack where the heat and humidity are the highest!

By the way, get out to Dog's Bluff for a swim while you're there.  It's just off H. 17 West of town.  The river might be in good condition down by the Baptist Camp, too.

An excellent day trip is up to Duke, West of H. 63.  Go to Rich's Last Resort to rent a canoe.  The float from the put in upstream is 6 or 8 miles, and is easy for inexperienced people in canoes.  There a a few deep holes to fish and several gravel bars to pull out on for a sandwich.
