Can anyone recommend a local (St. Louis) ak builder?  I've got an rpk74 that needs the rear trunnion re-riveted.  Thanks

You know.......all it takes is a vise, a strong hand drill, a good bit, a sturdy punch and a hammer to remove the old rivets.  Then you drill a divet into some piece of scrap flat steel to hold the head of the rivet and use a hammer to peen over the rivet into heads.   They do it in the hills and caves of Afghanistan so surely you can do it at home with electricity and beer.

Wish I still had the pics of that AK found in Afghanistan that was a MILLED receiver which was milled with hand tools but made to look like a sheetmetal receiver complete with rivet heads and build seams...  and a barrel made from a truck axle and it WORKED!!!

I like the pic of the AK w/the shovel handle as a stock...

Found it:

I can do all of that. I am just worried about the test firing!

do like I did when I built my first one.  Put it together, go someplace, insert 30rd mag and bump dump it for a test fire.

You said the rear trunion.  That's the one out back to which the stock attaches, right? If so, what's the worry? Either the rivets, which are made from very soft steel, will hold or they won't.  I'm betting they will.  There's really not a lot of stress on them and even long machine screws and nuts from Home Depot will work.  Heck, I'm betting wooden dowel rods would work for a few mags.

But I can understand wanting to pay a "pro" to do it so it doesn't look like an Afghani tribesman built it after smoking a couple pipes of hashish.

I like the LOP on that rifle.  An "entry" model, eh?
